Honors Chemistry will give you a well-rounded introduction into Chemistry. You should be prepared to go on to AP Chemistry and/or college-level Chemistry. We will cover all the South Carolina standards, plus a few extra.
Differences:
Faster Pace
One extra unit of study (States of Matter / Gas Laws)
More topics within each unit (for example, Honors Chem will learn a little organic chem in the Chemical Compounds Unit)
More complex labs (We will have more data collection and use more instruments and lab techniques.)
More Math!! (We will use log functions and more complex algebra)
Because of all of this, students are expected to practice and study on their own!
Chemistry was one of the toughest classes for me in both high school and the five (!) semesters I took in college. It is probably my favorite class to teach. It took me a little bit of time to learn to love it, but I do!
If you fall behind or get lost, absolutely no shame! Make sure you try to get caught up as soon as possible. It is a lot like math were it builds on itself and you won't magically understand if you are struggling, you have to work for it.
If you feel lost:
Come to tutoring as soon as possible, sometimes just a little help is all it takes.
Ask a friend for help, whether it is a classmate or someone who has taken Chem before.
YouTube has a ton of great resources. Just type in the topic we are learning; watch several videos. (Professor Dave is my fav)
Do the easy stuff over and over and then move on to the hard stuff.
