In accordance with state law, no school may adopt or utilize any type of grading system that requires a teacher to assign a minimum grade or score that exceeds a student’s actual performance on required assignments.
The Grading Floor of a 50 has been removed for ALL middle and high courses taught in middle school.
This applies to ALL grades including assignments grades, progress report grades and quarterly grades.
The teacher can NO longer override grades below a 50 for an assignment or a quarterly grade. The grade in the gradebook will reflect the assignment grade and/or quarterly grade the student has earned and it may be below a 50.
For example, in the past if the grade were below a 50 the grade would reflect a grade override score of a 50 .New district policy removes the grading floor of a 50 so the grade you see in the gradebook is the actual grade the student earned.
This includes middle level HS courses. The actual grade will stand in the gradebook for all classes taught at the middle school.
Students may retake any MAJOR assignment 1 time regardless of score.
A request, completed review task, and retake, ALL must take place within 5 school days from the date the original grade was received.
The highest score will be entered into the gradebook. Major retakes are no longer averaged together.
Students ARE NOT permitted to retake any MINOR assignment.
***SC LEGISLATION***. Students will no longer receive a grade floor of 50. If a student does not complete an assignment, their “NHI” will count as a zero until completed or changed to a permanent 0. If a student receives a score of 20, the grade is calculated as 20. Progress and report cards will not be overwritten to a 50.
ALL GRADES WILL REFLECT 100% EARNED VALUE
