Mrs. Tenholder
6th Grade School Counselor
6th Grade School Counselor
Hey there! My name is Lauren Tenholder and I am the 6th Grade Counselor at the Hughes Academy of Science and Technology for the 2025-2026 school year. This is my tenth year at Hughes, and my twelfth year as a School Counselor. My husband and I moved to Greenville to start our "post-navy" lives from Jacksonville Florida. We have two sons, Dustin and Wyatt. Dustin is 8 years old and in the third grade this year. He loves minecraft and playing baseball. Wyatt is 5 and going into Kindergarten. He loves music by Pitbull and salad.
I am originally from a very small town in Connecticut and was fortunate to grow up with two parents who loved each other and a brother I had no choice but to be best friends with, and still am. After living in Connecticut for 17 years, I was ready to explore somewhere new! Therefore, I attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL. I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and minors in Education and Spanish.
My dream career has always been to be a School Counselor. I taught Special Education at five different private schools while attending one of the best school counseling programs in the country at the University of North Florida. During my second year in the program, I was hired early as a school counselor at Jefferson Davis Middle School in Duval County. I also worked five major school counselor conferences. I made sure to take advantage of every opportunity that was thrown my way so I was able to better serve your children!
I sincerely love my job. I am here for your children; to have their back, to support them, to give them a high five when they have accomplished a goal and to listen to them when they are angry or sad. After being able to loop with the same group of students for three years, I loved being able to connect with them and being their go-to trusted adult. I know these kids came to school to learn, but they taught me so much about who I am as a school counselor but also who I am as a person.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns! I can't wait to see your children grow through this awkward time known as Middle School!
