Welcome! Technical Theatre is designed to introduce students to a wide range of technical theatre topics, including areas of design, construction, and backstage work. Due to the nature of the class, students should be willing to solve problems, collaborate, think creatively, and take risks. Culmination of the course is a final design project. 

**This class requires the use of power tools. There is a class fee of $20 for the purchase of a personal makeup kit. Fees need to be paid on My School Bucks by mid-March. 

Unit 1: Theatre/Technical Theatre Basics: Vocabulary, Theatre Etiquette, Theatre Spaces, Elements & Principles of Design

Unit 2: Construction: Students will assist in the construction of a variety of technical elements for the spring musical and practice tool and shop safety.

Unit 3: Costume Design & Hand Sewing: Students will gain an understanding of costume design functions, vocabulary, and processes and create their own costume designs for characters in a play. They will also demonstrate basic hand sewing techniques.

Unit 4: Set Design: Students will gain an understanding of set design functions, vocabulary, and processes and create their own set designs for locations in a play.

Unit 5: Lighting Design: Students will gain an understanding of lighting design functions, vocabulary, and processes and create their own lighting designs for moments in a play.

Unit 6: Makeup Design: Students will gain an understanding of makeup design functions, vocabulary, and processes and create their own makeup designs for different characters. Students will also practice applying makeup to their face.

Unit 7: Stage & House Management: Students will explore and practice the duties and responsibilities of stage managers and house managers.

Unit 8: Marketing/Publicity: Students will gain an understanding of marketing and publicity for theatre and create their own marketing plan and promotional materials for a production.

Unit 9: Miscellaneous: Students will gain an understanding of other technical theatre elements such as sound design, props construction, backstage crews, etc.
