Greenville County Schools (GCS) serves students in Grades 3-5 who have met the SC Department of Education's Gifted and Talented (GT) Qualification Criteria via the Challenge program.  The Challenge program is designed to complement regular classroom instruction and serves GT students in a resource or pull-out class setting.  Students in Grade 3 receive 125 minutes of instruction per week while students in Grades 4-5 receive 200 minutes of instruction per week.  This model of gifted instruction is supported by the SC Department of Education.  Challenge curriculum centers around integrated units of study that offer enrichment in the core content areas of English, math, science, and social studies.  Every GCS elementary school offers the Challenge program with instruction delivered by a GT endorsed elementary teacher. 

Greenville County Schools (GCS) serves students in Grades 6-8 who have met the SC Department of Education's Gifted and Talented (GT) Qualification Criteria via a special class model.  GT qualified students are served via English 6 GT,  English 7 GT, and English 1 H for Grade 8.  These courses are designed to accelerate and enrich ELA content via deeper content connections, conversations, research, and critical thinking.  This model of gifted instruction is supported by the SC Department of Education.  Every GCS middle school offers English GT with instruction delivered by a GT endorsed middle grades English teacher. 

 NOTE:  To enroll in English 6 GT, English 7 GT, and English 1 H for Grade 8, students must meet SC Gifted and Talented Qualification Criteria.  Students who have not yet met the qualification criteria may request enrollment in English 1 H, but enrollment is pending prerequisite ELA grades, ELA achievement scores, and space availability in the course sections.  Advanced Math 6, Advanced Math 7, and Geometry with Statistics H are also offered in middle school, but enrollment is dependent upon prerequisite math grades and math achievement scores.

NOTE:  While honors courses in high school serve students who have met SC Gifted and Talented Qualification Criteria, students who have not yet met GT qualification criteria may request enrollment in honors courses dependent upon prerequistite grades and achievement in the content area.  Additionally, GT qualified students are encouraged to take advantage of enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses as they progress through high school.
