Advanced Academic Programs
Greenville County Schools (GCS) seeks to provide a continuum of services that addresses the interests, strengths, and needs of gifted and talented students. Educators use a variety of programming options, including acceleration and enrichment, in varied grouping arrangements to enhance students’ performance in academic, artistic, and social-emotional areas and to assist them in identifying college and career goals and talent development pathways.
The GCS Gifted and Talented Program follows the South Carolina Department of Education Gifted and Talented Best Practices Manual for the identification and service of gifted and talented students in Grades K-12.
The Advanced Placement Program provides high school students with an opportunity to pursue college-level work and earn college credit and placement. AP courses are offered in all GCS high schools, but available courses vary by individual school.
The International Baccalaureate Program seeks to enable students to direct their own learning pathway and develop skills and confidence to make a lasting difference. GCS offers the IB Primary Years Program at Fork Shoals Elementary and the IB Diploma Program at Greer High, Southside High, Travelers Rest High, and Woodmont High.
