School Choice

Greenville County Schools is a “choice” district, offering quality schools at all levels across the school system. Approximately 16% of the school system’s 76,000 students attend school on choice.

Students are assigned to a school (home-based) based on the address where their custodial parent/guardian resides. School assignments are listed by subdivision/multi-family dwelling and home address using the "Find Your Schools" link below. Parents may request that their children attend another school through Change in Assignment Choice (CIA) and/or applying to the school system’s Magnet Academies.

Middle School Course Registration 2025

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

It is time for your child to select classes for middle school! During the week of February 24th-28th, all 5th grade students will request their courses for 6th grade at school.

Please review the information provided to assist your child with this process, then sign and return by Wednesday, February 19th. If you would like more about individual courses, each middle school will post its own course catalog on their school website, as well as the district website: https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/Parents/main.asp?titleid=catalogs

After students have completed their course selection at school, a copy of your child’s full registration information will be sent home for your review and signature at the end of March. You will sign and return this copy, then I will send it to the appropriate middle school.

Academic Courses

Teachers recommend math courses based on student performance in 5th grade math. Students will be placed in Math 6 unless they are recommended by their teacher for Advanced Math 6. Students in Challenge will be placed in English GT, while all other students will take English 6. All 6th graders take the same science and social studies courses.

Electives

Students will have the opportunity to take a variety of related arts courses. Some elective courses last one semester while others last all year. Please review the appropriate course catalog for your child’s school for information about electives.

Please complete, sign, and review the attached form for your child’s assigned school so that your child can make the appropriate selections. If you are seeking special permission for your child to attend another school through Change in Assignment Choice, please note that your child will register for the current assigned school on the registration date. If their assigned school changes, I will update the registration to reflect the correct school.
