About Me

On a professional note...

My name is Lauren Martorell, and this is my sixth year at League Academy. I am originally from Upstate New York and moved to Greenville after earning my Bachelors of Science at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta in English and Adolescent Education (7-12) and my Masters from Canisius College in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Since then, I've taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Media and English Language Arts but find myself most at home with the oldest of the three grade levels.

In addition to teaching, I'm also an active member of our school's Process Champions, the department head of the English Department, and the coach of the girls soccer team. These positions are close to my heart as they are a part of League's movement to promote relationships and community as well as the importance of reading and writing comprehension.

On a personal note...

My love for reading was prevalent even as a child. It didn't matter if it was at a restaurant, in the car, or under the covers past my bedtime, you could always find me nose buried among the pages of my most current book. As my love for literature grew, I met my 10th grade English teacher, who married rigor and the growth mindset with her passion for literature and her students. It was then I realized that I, too, wanted to make an impact on young minds and hearts through the language arts.

Other than my love for reading and writing, I also have an array of interests. I am a huge foodie and athlete. I love spending time with my family, traveling, seeing live music, and staying active. If you don't see me working or at student performances and games then I'm usually driving somewhere to hear good music or participate in something competitive. I also enjoy collecting vinyl records, watching Netflix, drinking coffee, and snowboarding! I raise two dogs, Rupert and Sebastian, with my husband—Chris—who also is a New York native and relocated to The South with me. We just got married in December of 2020! To answer your next question, we're a hybrid family as we are loyal fanatics of the Buffalo Bills, NY Rangers, NY Mets, as well as the Clemson Tigers. ♡
