🏗️ November News: From Skyscrapers to Algebra
Dear Families and Students,
Hello! As November unfolds, here’s an update on the engaging topics my Challenge students have been exploring and the exciting projects ahead. I continue to be impressed by their curiosity and their ability to tackle complex new concepts! Thank you for your continued support this semester.
This past month, students engaged in fantastic discussions about architectural footprints and the significant challenges architects face when designing and building skyscrapers. They also analyzed how urban sprawl affects communities, looking at both the benefits and drawbacks of city growth. The students finished researching a skyscraper of their choice, and this month, they will put their findings in the format of an infographic to share key information about their chosen building. This project combines research, analysis, and visual design skills!
In October, students finished reviewing Level 2 of Hands-On Equations and recently started Level 3. They've been curious about our green number cubes, which are used to represent negative numbers. This month, students will incorporate these negative numbers into algebraic equations, building their conceptual understanding of this important mathematical concept. Hands-On Equations makes learning algebra intuitive, even when introducing challenging ideas like combining positive and negative values!
I look forward to a busy and fun November!
