Auditions
Students who are continuing in Skyland Singers and who are musical leaders are encouraged to audition for the State Elementary Honor Choir and Spring Sing. Spring Sing is the Greenville County Honor Choir for selected 5th graders. The State Elementary Honor Choir is open to 4th and 5th graders. This event takes place in Columbia in February, and students from across South Carolina are selected by recorded audition.
The audition for each group is the same: Echo Singing, Harmonic Singing, and My Country 'tis of Thee. Judges are listening for light tone, singing in tune, and singing with confidence. Accurate pitch matching is required for both.
Echo Singing: Copy what you hear with a nice focused "loo" and with a nice light tone. Practice with the recording to become more confident! Click on the underlined link for the recording.

The piano can help you get started, and then you fly solo for the remainder! The judge is listening for light tone, singing in tune, and confidence. Practice with the recording! We sing this song a lot in 2nd and 3rd grades, so Skyland students should be very familiar with it!
