What is mental health?
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.
What is a mental health counselor?
Mental health counselors are licensed professionals who work with individuals, families, and groups in a variety of settings. Mental health counselors work with their clients to establish goals and develop approaches to address emotional issues, develop skills in coping and communication, improve self-esteem, promote changes in behavior, and strive for improved mental well-being.
Are counseling services available at BMS?
Greenville County School District now provides an array of Mental Health Services at designated schools to help students and families improve overall functioning at home, school, and community. This program allows for students and families to receive needed mental health support in the school setting by a qualified Mental Health Professional. To learn more about these services and the referral process, please contact Michelle Curenton at acurenton@greenville.k12.sc.us.
Greenville County Schools has a virtual therapy resource that parents/guardians can access for their students. This service would be for counseling sessions outside of school hours.
Please contact your child's school counselor if you would like more information and/or for them to make a referral.
