About Me

My name is Julie Summey. I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with my Bachelors of Music Education in 1990 and my Masters of Music Education in 1991. This is my 21st year at Bryson Middle School. Before joining the wonderful Bryson family I stayed home with my two children for six years. I started my teaching career in Bishopville, SC where I taught middle and high school band for three years. This fall, I will have the privelege of working with my daughter's marching band at Carolina HIgh school as the percussion instructor.

I have two wonderful children. My oldest is an App State graduate and is the band director at Carolina High School and Academy in Greenville. My youngest is a recent App State graduate with a degree in music theory/composition. I guess you could say music and App State definitely runs in the family. (My late husband was an App State alum as well.) In fact, we were the 2017 Appalachian State University Family of the Year. Rounding out our family is our 12 year old labradoodle named Luci.

When I get free time, I love to read, listen to music, and watch TV. My music choices are varied. I like just about all styles. Some more than others, but I appreciate good music of any kind. I absolutely love Broadway musicals and can be found at the Peace Center regularly. Motown and '80's music are my two main go to styles in the popular music genre. The love of music is something I hope to instill in my students. When it comes to books and movies, I am very much a nerd. I love science fiction and fantasy. I am a HUGE fan of Harry Potter (I am a Hufflepuff), Doctor Who (9 and 10 are my favorites), DISNEY, Marvel, and Star Wars. :)
