Band Supplies

Instrument (selection will be done in class for beginners)

Additional supplies needed:

6th grade and 7th grade beginners: Habits of a Successful Beginner Band Musician method book for your instrument

Cleaning supplies for your instrument

Lots of reeds for clarinets and saxophones (Vandoren brand is better than Rico, strength of 2. Check the above web sites for great prices on reeds. Please DO NOT get the orange box Rico reeds. They are cheaper for a reason.)

Cork grease for clarinets and saxophones

Valve oil for trumpets

Slide cream for trombones (I highly recommend a tube of Trombotine. It costs a little more than oil, but lasts a long time and works better.)

Percussionists need a stick bag with a pair of drum sticks (SD1 General), xylophone mallets (hard rubber), marimba mallets (medium yarn), and timpani mallets (general). The xylophone and marimba mallets are the most important to begin with. Students will not need the drum sticks or timpani mallets until November if you want to wait instead of purchasing everything at the same time. Students may get a percussion kit with bells and snare, but it is not required.

Suggested supplies:

A folding music stand for at home practice

A portable instrument stand to keep the instrument safe when not being played

An electronic metronome/tuner (There are lots of great, free apps for this!)

Percussion and General Music

All class specific supplies will be provided. Students should have the standard school supplies (Chromebook, pencil, and paper) with them daily.
