Career Planning
Career Development at Berea High School
The Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) gives students in South Carolina a guided pathway for exploring careers by using resources within the classroom and the community.
Each student begins exploring their individual career path as soon as they begin school. Eighth and ninth grade students start to define their interests and choose a career cluster with their parents and school counselor during their Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meeting. Using the “Personal Pathways to Success” program, students, parents and the counselor create an IGP. Students in the tenth – twelfth grades narrow their focus by choosing a career major during their IGP meeting. During the meeting, students, counselors, and parents also discuss which classes they should take to further explore their career interest and possibly complete a CTE Pathway. Students who complete a CTE Pathway before they graduate high school will be recognized before graduation. Students can change their major anytime with their counselor.
CTE Pathways that can be completed at Berea High School are Health Science, General Management, Horticulture, PLTW-Computer Science, and Business Finance. Please see our CTE Pathways document to see the courses required to complete the available pathways. Students can also attend 1 of our 4 career centers to complete 1 of 16 additional CTE Pathways.

Experiential Learning Opportunities for Berea High School students
At Berea High School, students may participate in job shadowing, or experience career speakers during the school year. Job shadowing allows students to understand the day-to-day responsibilities of a job assignment. Career speakers reiterate the relationship of coursework to on the job tasks. Both opportunities show the relationship of school and professional careers.
