How to make a speech referral
During each year, teachers, parents and other staff come to the speech department and bring us names of students who may have some speech and language challenges.
Anyone can make a speech referral to us.
First, contact Ashley Sink or Sharon Poynter (at Oakview Elementary) about your concern.
The speech therapist will conduct a "look-see" and then decide if the sounds are developmentally appropriate or if a screening needs to take place.
We then decide what is the next step. They are:
1. provide Interventions in the classroom
2. provide early intervening services (EIS)
3. start the Initial Evaluation process to have the student formally evaluated for speech and/or language needs.
