The steps to speech and language therapy include:
Evaluation of need
Determination of eligibility
Determination of adverse effect in the classroom
Determination of need for service
Creation of an IEP (Individualized Education Plan)
The IEP could address any of the following areas:
Articulation: development and use of specific speech sounds in communication
Fluency: development and use of smooth, uninterrupted speech
Voice: development and use of a smooth, clear and healthy voice for communication
Language: development and use of parts of speech for written and spoken communication and learning
Pragmatics: development and use of non-verbal communication, and social skills in conversation
The student will be seen in small groups of peers each week to address their needs.
