WMHS College Advising - College Applications

The Common App is now open! Most colleges will let you apply via the Common App (link). You can create a profile with all of your basic information, the clubs/activities/work you have been involved in, and an essay for the schools that require one. Then, you can easily send this application to all the colleges you are interested in, though most of them will require a few additional questions and potentially letters of recommendation. Follow these steps to give me viewing access to your Common App:
1) Select a college from your dashboard. 2) Click Recommenders and FERPA. 3) Add me as an Advisor (Not Counselor!) using my email qmilligan@greenecountyschools.com 4) Click Enable Preview!

Worried about application fees? If you qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, I can get you a waiver so that all of your applications are free. Also, everyone in the school can apply to most schools in Virginia for free during Virginia College Application Week, October 24th-28th!

Early Decision

Early Decision is a BINDING application process. If you apply and are admitted, you MUST attend. This option is only recommended if you are 100% sure of your choice and do not need to wait on financial aid to make your decision.

Early Action

Early Action is not binding, it is simply a way to find out your admissions decision earlier in the school year, usually by January or February. It is typically recommended to apply Early Action to schools you are most interested in, especially if you don't expect to need your grades from fall of your senior year.

Regular Decision

Rolling Admission

Rolling Admission schools will read applications and return decisions within 3-6 weeks throughout the school year. They may or may not have a fixed final deadline, but most will have priority scholarship deadlines - recommended dates by which you apply in order to maximize the amount of scholarships they can give you.
