Each band class meets five days a week for 45 minutes. Groups and events considered “optional” have requirements that if not met will result in dismissal from the group. Each optional group will have an agreement form (or permission form) to sign for participation.
6TH GRADE BEGINNER BAND
The 6th Grade Beginner Band at EGMS is for first year band students. They will have two required performances during the year: the Winter Concert in December and the Spring Concert in May.
7TH AND 8TH GRADE CONCERT BANDS
The 7th and 8th Grade concert bands are separate classes for second and third year students respectively. Like the 6th grade band, they will have two required performances during the year: the Winter Concert in December and the Spring Concert in May. In addition, they will play a school concert for the students during the day in December and possibly one in May. 8th grade will perform at the Veteran’s day assembly in November. They will sometimes play separately and sometimes play together for the performances.
BEGINNER STUDENTS IN 7TH OR 8TH GRADE
First year students in 7th or 8th grade band will be one or two years behind the rest of the class. From this point they will need to play “catch up.” They will be expected to take their instrument home and practice. Without this practice, they will not be able to catch up to the rest of the students. We’ve seen some students who are ready to take this challenge and do quite well. However, many students will start and quickly become frustrated and want to quit. If this challenge feels like too much, we advise the student to sign up for a different class within the first week.
