Career Development Events (CDE'S)

CDE's are team or individual events that specialize in different career areas in agriculture. Below is a list CDE's coached at Greeley West High School:

Creed: A freshmen only competition, this CDE requires students to memorize and interact with one of the FFA's most important historical documents, the FFA Creed. In addition to memorization, students must also answer three questions relating to their understanding of the meaning of the creed.

Parliamentary Procedure: This debate style competition tests members on their knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order and their ability to think on their feet and present rational persuasive arguments. A parli-pro team is made up of a chairman, secretary/debater, and four debaters.

Extemporaneous: Extemporaneous public speaking is a research heavy contest that requires students to write a 4-6 minute speech on a random topic, but they're only given 30 minutes to compose their speech. Student must prepare resources (books or binders) that contain enough information for them to write a persuasive and education speech on a wide variety of agricultural topics.

Prepared: This competition allows students to dig in to a single agricultural topic that they're passionate about. Members must write and submit an 8-10 minute speech on a topic beforehand. The judges are given time to consider the topic before they listen to the speech and ask 5 minutes of questions.

Job Interview: In this competition, students participate in a mock job interview for an agricultural related job. They must submit a resume and cover letter beforehand, and are asked questions by a panel of possible employers that range anywhere from teamwork skills to job qualifications.
