We highly encourage students to utilize the study jam sessions to grab breakfast, focus on some last minute studying or connect with teachers and instructors prior to their first exam.

During teacher access time on Tuesday, December 19 and Wednesday, December 20, students are not required to be in attendance unless they need to complete assignments for a specific course or finish a final exam.  As such, students not needing to take advantage of this time can be released at 12:40pm.

Students are required to be in attendance for all scheduled courses. Juniors and seniors are not required to attend periods in which they are scheduled for time release.

When it comes to test-taking strategies, it's essential to approach the assessment with a well-thought-out plan to maximize your performance. Here are some key strategies to consider:

1. **Time Management:**

   - Allocate your time wisely among different sections or questions.

   - Don't dwell on a single question for too long. If you're stuck, move on and come back later.

2. **Read Carefully:**

   - Pay close attention to instructions and question wording.

   - Underline or highlight key terms to ensure you address the specific requirements.

3. **Answer Easy Questions First:**

   - Begin with the questions you find easiest. This helps build confidence and saves time for challenging ones later.

4. **Skip and Return:**

   - If you encounter a difficult question, don't hesitate to skip it and return later. Sometimes, other questions provide hints or jog your memory.

5. **Guessing Strategy:**

   - If there's no penalty for guessing, take educated guesses. Eliminate obviously incorrect options and make an informed choice.

6. **Review Your Work:**

   - If time permits, go back and review your answers. Check for errors and ensure you haven't misinterpreted any questions.

7. **Stay Calm and Focused:**

   - Manage stress by taking deep breaths and maintaining a positive mindset. Focus on one question at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

8. **Use Allotted Resources:**

   - If allowed, use scratch paper to jot down thoughts, calculations, or key points before answering. Utilize any available resources wisely.

Remember, these strategies are adaptable, and you might find a personalized approach that works best for you. Practice and familiarity with the test format also play crucial roles in enhancing your performance. Good luck with your future assessments!

Lessons on GRAtitude

ECA’s NAV Crew is a peer leadership group of upperclassmen that works to foster positive school-wide connections through various year-long campaigns and activities. In November, NAV Crew had the opportunity to present a Gratitude campaign to 9th and 10th-grade students. This was a fun and engaging project that aimed to increase an overall culture of gratitude not only among students but staff as well. The campaign included gratitude games and the creation of the "I AM Grateful" collective bulletin board outside the Student Support Center. NAV Crew closed the campaign with the goal of supporting youth and adult connectedness through having students share thank you notes to a staff member who has supported them this semester.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT- PERFORMANCE CLUB

Sometimes it's little accidents around the house that can cause the greatest mystery. In the play “An Absolutely True Story (As Told by a Bunch of Lying Liars)” everyone is a suspect. The Early College Academy performance club will be performing this play on the 19th of April. Auditions are going on the week before finals after school. Come join us in April for a night of free fun. The performance club will be performing as well as the dance club.

Clubs are an important part of ECA. They give students the opportunity to make friends and develop their talents and interests in a relaxed environment. Performance club meets twice a week after school. The students work together with the help of student leadership to put together a quality performance. This year Sarah Hulac is our president. Performance club is open to all students at ECA.

For more information, please contact Wendy Arthur.

MAGIC THE GATHERING

Early College Academy started a new club this semester focused on the game Magic The Gathering.  Due to student interest, and lead by passionate junior Hanna Grandel, the club includes opportunities for students to learn the popular card game, which boasts many benefits including increasing decision-making skills, communication skills, mathematics, and strategic planning. Due to the excitement surrounding the building of this club, the club decided to apply for MagiKids; a program that provides supplies and resources to support Magic The Gathering Clubs at K-12 schools across the United States. Early College Academy was accepted into the program and was provided with a kit to support the club's growth and participants. This kit will support several students new to the game as well as provide resources for the club's future success.
