JUNIOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
District 6 offers rising seniors the Career Explore Internship Program which allows students to explore their career path and the world of work while developing life-long skills that will prepare them for their future. This program is meant to prepare all students for their chosen path after high school and support their individual post-secondary goals. This planning and preparation is meant to move every student forward in the direction of their career choice. These internships will allow students to learn and understand the environment, expectations, and requirements of the workplace, professions, and industries. Students will be able to get hands-on experience of what a real job is like and how the skills they learn in school can be used in the workplace. D6 Internships are 150 hours and are paid at least minimum wage. Summer internships will occur after the academic school year between May-August and can begin as early as May 28, 2024.
Last summer ECA students interned at ABC’s Bright School-Aged Centers, Banner Health, Brick House Salon, City of Evans Recreation Center, City of Greeley, Rodarte Community Center, District 6, Habitat for Humanity, Sunrise Community Health, Work out West, and Weld County Garage.
District 6 high school juniors interested in a summer internship will need to complete the 2023-24 District 6 Internship - Student Interest Form by December 8, 2023. Ms. Dominguez sent the form to all Juniors Greeley Schools email addresses. Juniors will be invited to attend an upcoming information meeting at ECA soon!

FaLL DANCE
Student Council is hosting a Neon-Themed Fall Dance on Friday, November 10th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Aims Welcome Center (4901 W 20th St). This is a free event for all ECA students. High-school-aged guests are welcome with approved paperwork. All tickets and paperwork will be available starting on Tuesday, October 31st. Guest paperwork must be signed by parents/guardians and their high school principal. Please see Mrs. Cerise with questions.
FREE APPLICATION DAY$
Over three days, seniors prepped their college applications and sent them off to colleges and universities! Colorado’s Free Application Days event offered every student across the state the opportunity to apply to college free of cost. According to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), by waiving application fees, which are a common barrier to higher education, Colorado Free Application Days aims to improve access to further education and training, which is becoming increasingly critical in the state’s rapidly changing economy. There were 231 applications sent over the three days, with an average of $45 per application fee, saving students over $10,300! The top schools to which students applied were the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University — Fort Collins, University of Colorado — Boulder, and University of Colorado — Colorado Springs.
ACCESS AIMS
On November 2, Early College Academy took our 9th and 10th graders to hear motivational speaker, Scott "Intake" Kartvedt, a true aviation legend. Inspired by 'Top Gun' in 1986, he turned his dream into a reality, becoming a Navy fighter pilot with 5 combat deployments and over 6,300 flight hours.
Scott's achievements include leading the Navy’s first F-35C Stealth Strike Fighter Squadron and a stunt pilot in 'TOPGUN Maverick.' He continues to fly jets as a pilot for the Patriot Jet Team and is a respected human performance instructor.
Tutor Profile - Tom Miller
Greetings! My name is Tom Miller, and I am an academic tutor at the Early College Academy. This is my third academic year with ECA.
While I first spent about 20 years in the nonprofit world in a couple of Executive Director roles in Michigan, I also served as an adjunct professor from time to time, and I subsequently opted to shift my career to full-time teaching for the next 20 years or so. I taught economics, business management, and leadership courses for a university in Michigan and then for another in Florida.
I initially “retired” (from teaching) and, to be closer to family in Denver and avoid brutal summers as well as hurricanes, my wife and I moved to Greeley, Colorado in May, 2019, where I served as a Senior Academic Advisor at Aims Community College. Frustratingly, I experienced a significant health challenge in December, 2020, and I ended my full-time career shortly after.
But, I love helping students develop their scholastic skills and vocational interests, and I began working for ECA as a part-time tutor. Given my degrees and teaching experience, I can assist students with history, political science, and microeconomics, but my primary focus is guiding students with their writing assignments (mostly from English courses). I am available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays in the Student Support Center.
