This year's homecoming at Proctor Junior/ Senior High School began with a splash. The events consisted of a spirit week, a pep rally (where students and teachers threw water balloons at the soccer team), a bonfire, two soccer games, and a dance.
Both Boys and Girls play against West Rutland every year. Unfortunately, this year the Phantoms did not get lucky as both teams fell to The Horde with scores of 2-1. However, the Boy Phantoms beat West Rutland at their homecoming.
¨It is sad to know this is my last homecoming but, looking back, there will always be good memories of Proctor,¨ Senior Olivia Gianni said.
During the week of October 2nd-7th, we celebrated Spirit Week with the following days: Beach Day, Twin Day, 80s Day, and Jersey Day. Each day students dressed for the theme in a variety of outfits.
At the end of the day on Thursday, there was a brief Pep Rally. It included a brief soccer game called Lightning where the players would shoot at each other and the last one to be scored on wins. Then some teachers and students threw water balloons at the members of both the girls’ and boys' teams. This year, all players wore white t-shirts because the water balloons were filled with food dye. All the players were trying to dodge the balloons without moving their feet, but in the end, everyone was very colorful and wet.
The day before the soccer games, Proctor always has a huge bonfire at the school to celebrate before the big day comes. Before the bonfire, the players and the students who attend go into the gym, play games, and have another pep rally. After the games, the Proctor Fire Department comes to the school and lights a massive fire for everyone to enjoy. During the bonfire, students will play either football or soccer on the field behind the fire.
“I think more people should have participated," Senior Dylan Aker said in his thoughts on Spirit Week.
On the 14th of October, both Proctor soccer teams had their games. The girl's game had good weather, sunny and cool. When it came to the boy's game, it kicked off with heavy rain, making the game harder to play. Along with the weather, the boys were missing two crucial players to their team; Senior Matt Nop (hamstring injury) and Sophomore goalie Aaron Brock (concussion). Both the girls' and boys' teams lost, the girls' score was 3-1 and the boys’ score was 2-1. Two seniors, Isaac Parker and Isabel Greb, were the only scorers for Proctor on the day with 1 goal each.
¨Terrible game, terrible weather, all around terrible day,¨ Senior Isaac Parker said after the loss.
After the games, the homecoming dance was held in the gymnasium. Even with both losses earlier that day, everyone was still smiling at the dance and having fun.
