Reading
In third grade, we start to make the shift from learning to reading and to reading to learn. We will be approaching reading using many different models. We will be reading on-grade-level novels as a whole class and completing a novel study. We will be reading books in small groups that are just right for us and digging deeper into reading skills such as discussing plot, characters, summarizing, and more. We will also be using interactive notebooks. These notebooks allow students to focus on a specific skill.
In addition to direct instruction, the students will often follow a structure called Daily 5. You can read more about Daily 5 below. I find Daily 5 to be an important part of our day as it teaches students independence and to be self directed.
