From Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July, all Year 10 students at Grant High School will be involved in our annual Career Immersion Week. This week is designed to support students in better understanding industry and career opportunities as they begin to consider their pathways post high school.
Immersion Week aims to streamline industry connections with the school by having students nominate a chosen industry field to explore. Career Immersion Week will feature a range of engaging experiences including site visits, career talks, hands-on activities, and other meaningful snapshots of industry. These industries of interest include: Primary Industries, Education & Youth, Construction, Technology & IT, Machining & Engineering, Hair Beauty & Wellbeing and Healthcare. Groups of 15–30 students will participate in these activities, accompanied by Grant High School staff.
This year, Career Immersion Week will commence with all Year 10 students attending the Flinders University Limestone Coast Roadshow on Monday, held on-site at Grant High School. This program is designed to introduce students to the wide range of tertiary education opportunities available through Flinders University. Students will participate in interactive workshops, attend information sessions about various courses and career pathways, and have the chance to engage directly with university representatives. These activities aim to inspire and inform students as they begin exploring future study and career options.
Week 10, Term 2 (Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July). Attendance to school during this week is compulsory.
Each year we do an initial data collection from students in Week 1, Term 1 to determine their very general career pathway plans, this helps us to understand how best to groups students to give them an opportunity to experience something interesting.
In 2025 immersion activities are being organised under the following categories, based on data collected from current Year 10 students:
Education
Healthcare
Construction
Primary Industries
Hospitality
Technology and IT
Machining and Engineering
Hair, Beauty and Wellbeing
Unfortunately, the Hair and Beauty group will not go ahead due to a lack of industry support. These students will need to organise work experience instead.
Yes. Preferably you will participate in Career Immersion Week, and then follow up with a more targeted work placement in Term 3.
For Week 10 of Term 2. you are encouraged to organise your own work experience where:
you are interested in an industry area that is not covered by our list, or
you are interested in experiencing a specific workplace.
There are additional paperwork requirements for work experience which need to be completed well in advance. A Workplace Learning Agreement Form can be collected from and returned to the front office. Students wishing to undertake work experience during Week 10, Term 2 need to return a completed form by no later than Monday 26th of May.
You will be required to complete a reflection activity on your work experience as part of Homegroup in Term 3.
Initial data was collected via a survey in Term 1.
If you are planning to organise work experience, you must still make a selection. We will remove you from your selection once we receive a completed work placement form.
If you are aware that you will be absent that week, you must still make a selection. Please provide your Kunga teacher with the details of your planned absence in a written note from home ASAP.
You can advise your Homegroup teacher of your change of preference any time, changes can be made depending upon spaces available in the prefered group.
This information was provided in Term 1. During Term 2 we will provide you with consent letters and any further information you might require.
Talk to your Homegroup teacher in the first instance, or email Josh Praolini (career education coordinator) at josh.praolini284@schools.sa.edu.au
