Reflection

Exploration Stage:

My preconceived notions about MIT classes are a mix of uncertainty and excitement just as with my beginning class over a year ago. I was excited to be in graduate school after twenty some years of anticipation, and am thrilled to be finishing my last class. I tried to anticipate what surprises either classes would hold. I imagine this last class will not be anymore difficult than the rest since it is the first full-term course I’ve taken, but I may be wrong because they suggested we not take any other classes with it. I hope it will be flexible and allow for self direction and creativity unlike other classes thus far. I doubt that I will learn new technology but still hope for design tips, community, and fine tuning of skills. I wonder how much the professor will be present in our coursework. I feel disappointed at the absence of lasting relationships in an online graduate program. I felt so connected in undergraduate school and very shaped by the professors and classmates’ viewpoints.

Honestly, I have no idea what this last class will be like and I haven’t given practicum much thought, likely, because I felt successful in the coursework up to this point and expect it to continue. At this stage in the MIT program I am most satisfied and confident in my understanding of SAMR, TPACK and the ISTE standards. This is in complete contrast to my near annoyance of repeatedly citing standards over and over a year ago. Still, I am wondering what an ePortfolio is exactly. It is probably something to make us employable but I feel resistant because this will be the fourth website design for a MIT class. Shouldn't it be culminating somehow? I am curious about us needing a peer evaluator. This is intriguing. If this means we have a partner through this class, I think that is an excellent idea to get us connecting and sharing more. I hope I know someone from my previous classes or can find someone with an elementary background that may want to partner.
