Preventing Suicide

If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, how can you help? The following video will teach you how to help those who are struggling whether that person is you or someone else. It's important that all of us know how to respond when someone is in crisis. This information is reviewed with students during the December SEL lesson each year.

The handout below reviews the information within the video above. It explains how students can to respond to a friend who is struggling or how they themselves can get support. The second handout includes more updated resources, such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. And includes protective factors that help support against the risk of suicide.

Create A Self Care Plan

Creating your own self care plan is a great way to remind you to take care of yourself. You can print the template below to help create a plan that works for you. Write your name at the top, then write what you do to keep your mind, body, and spirit healthy in each of the boxes provided. Finally, list three or more supportive people in your life. These are the people you can go to when you are struggling. Make sure you also list what you would like to accomplish in life. These can be long term life goals or short term goals. Keep your self care plan in a visible place to revisit it often.
