Message from the Headteacher

Dear parents

We've had a vibrant and eventful few weeks at our school, showcasing our children's talents and enthusiasm.   Our  Sports Day was a tremendous success! The children had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful to see so many parents cheering them on under the glorious sunshine. Your support made the day even more special.

Our School Parliament and Junior Travel Ambassadors took part in Brake’s Kids Walk, promoting road safety on Worlds End Lane. They raised awareness about slower traffic, safe crossings, and respecting no-parking zones.  Read the article below to see how you can help as parents.

Our Key Stage 2 children recently participated in an anti-racism workshop, and I must express how impressed I was with their maturity, respect, and kindness throughout the session. The workshop provided valuable lessons on equality and understanding.

The children in Year 3 and 4 had an unforgettable time at their recent sleepover. They enjoyed toasting marshmallows around the campfire and bonding with their friends. A big thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to make this event happen. Your dedication is truly appreciated.

Another amazing term of sport at Grange Park! Our Year 5/6 football teams represented Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Nationals at Brentford FC's Gtech Stadium. Competing against 15,000 schools, Grange Park finished in the top 20 in England. An incredible achievement!

Don't forget our Summer Fayre on Sunday 7 July from 11am to 3pm. Join us for a day of fun activities, delicious food, and community spirit. We look forward to seeing you there!

With my very best wishes to you and your families.

Always stars

A massive well done to our ‘Always Stars’. ‘Always Star’ children are children who ALWAYS show that they follow the Big 3, they are ALWAYS respectful, resilient and show responsibility and they ALWAYS try their very best, taking on new challenges with a growth mindset and never giving  up.

Here are the 'Always Stars’ for the last half term.

Character

This half term, we are focusing on the important character trait of confidence. Confidence is the belief in oneself and one’s abilities. It is essential for personal growth, success and resilience.  The children were introduced to the character trait through the story ‘I Am Enough’ by Grace Byers. After hearing the story, the children were asked to consider how the author encourages confidence and acceptance. Byers emphasises that regardless of one’s looks, abilities, or beliefs, every child is unique, able and worthy of respect.

During the assembly, we discussed the meaning of confidence: I show that I am feeling proud of my achievements. I know that I can be proud of my abilities, without being arrogant.

Together we discussed that confidence helps us to feel ready for life’s experiences. When we’re confident, we’re more likely to move forward with people and opportunities - not back away from them. If things don’t work out at first, confidence helps us try again.

As parents, we play a crucial role in helping our children develop confidence. Confidence matters because confident children are more likely to participate in class, tackle challenging tasks, and persist through difficulties. Confidence helps children build strong relationships. They are more likely to express themselves clearly and stand up for themselves and others. Finally confident children are better equipped to handle setbacks and failures, viewing them as opportunities to learn and grow.

Here are some insights and tips on how to nurture this trait in your children.

Tips for Building Confidence at Home:

1. Encourage Effort Over Results

2. Provide Opportunities for Success

3. Be a Role Model

4. Create a Supportive Environment

5. Teach Problem-Solving Skills

By working together, we can help our children develop the confidence they need to navigate life's challenges and seize opportunities.

Curriculum News

School Parliament

On Wednesday 19 June, School Parliament and the school’s Junior Travel Ambassadors took part in Brake’s Kids Walk. This nationwide event is organised by Brake, the road safety charity, to help pupils promote the benefits of walking and learn about road safety. More than 650 schools and 75,000 children took part across the country.

Brake’s Kids Walk is an important event because it helps children understand that they have a right to make safe and healthy journeys every day, and that grown ups can help them to do this. As well as taking part in the walk, the children were spoken to about road safety in assembly by the MPs.

The children took to the streets, well Worlds End Lane, with their voices and posters raising awareness of what can make our roads safer. They asked for slower traffic, safe places to cross, no parking on the zig zag lines and/or the double yellow lines

What can I do as a parent?

By using roads safely they can help protect themselves and others.

Sports Update

Another amazing term of sport at Grange Park!

Starting with our Year 5/6 girls and boys football teams, who had the honour of representing Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Nationals at Brentford FC's Gtech stadium. The qualifiers began in early October with a staggering 15,000 schools competing, and Grange Park finished in the top 20 schools in England. An amazing achievement by the entire team!

A Message from the coaches at Tottenham Hotspur FC:

'Everyone at your school should be really proud of your accomplishment'

Our boys cricket team demonstrated excellent teamwork, securing victory in the Enfield Cricket competition and bringing home the gold.  After winning the Enfield Borough tournament our Year 3/4 tennis team also made us proud by representing Enfield at the London Youth Games. Well done to all of them! In another impressive performance, our Year 3 golf team claimed the silver medal at the Bush Hill Park Golf Club , while our Year 5/6 tennis team took the bronze medal at the recent Enfield Tournament. Finally, our athletics team continued their success from indoor athletics, earning the bronze medal at Lee Valley, narrowly missing out on a higher position by just two points. Well done to all involved!

Times Tables Rockstars

We are delighted to announce that our Year 4 students have successfully completed their multiplication check. This accomplishment is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout the term. Healthy Eating Week

This year, Grange Park marked Healthy Eating Week (10-14 June) by engaging the children in an informative assembly promoting awareness and understanding of the benefits of a balanced diet among children. The children had the opportunity to explore the Eatwell Plate, understand the components of a balanced diet, and contemplate the healthy choices they can make in the future. As well as this we thought about how we could ‘Give it a Go' which is this year’s theme. Find more information, advice and recipe ideas here

Stationery Reminder

Just a reminder that we are asking children from Year 1- Year 6 to bring their own pencil case and stationery to school which many schools are requesting now.  This enables children to take care and have a sense of responsibility for their own belongings.  Please see the list  with a link to Amazon to where you can order the items from:

Items should be clearly labelled.  Thank you for your ongoing support.

Behaviour Tweak - The Grange Park Way

This year, the whole school has been working really hard on ensuring that everyone is familiar with and following ‘The Grange Park Way’. We started the year with a behaviour reset, where we explored our expectations and how they could and should be met.

We introduced keystone routines that support the children to meet our expectations and revamped how we let children know when they are doing well by introducing ‘Proud Post’, which I am sure you’ve seen many of, and ‘Gotcha’ tokens.

Each half term we launch our new ‘Behaviour Tweak of the Week’ in assembly and so far this year we have thought about ‘Legendary Lines’, ‘Wonderful Walking’, ‘Terrific Toilets’, ‘Calm Canteens’, ‘Safe Searches’, and ‘Marvellous Manners’.

This half term we are focusing on ‘Excellent Environments’.  During the assembly we explored what ‘Excellent Environments’ are, why it is important to look after our school environment, which includes our classrooms, corridors, dining hall, reading hub and playgrounds. Finally, and most importantly, we came up with ideas of how we can make our environments even more excellent. The children suggested picking up litter whenever we see it, making sure that all of the chairs are tucked in, scraping our plates into the bin rather than letting it fall on the floor and if we use it, we put it away. Perhaps you ask your child about it and encourage them to look at their home environment too.

Arise Assembly and Parent Workshop

Anti-Racism and Me Workshop

On Wednesday 15th May, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were lucky enough to have a workshop on racism and discrimination. The workshop was run by the organisation - ARISE (Anti-Racism in Schools and Education). During the workshop, the children were introduced to Miss Lawton (co-founder), who discussed - What racism is, giving examples of racism, stereotypes and slurs and finished off by thinking about how we can stand up to racism.

The children found out that ‘Racism is a type of prejudice’.. Prejudice is when someone dislikes someone from a particular group of people, without knowing them. Racism is mistreating people based on the colour of their skin, religion or ethnicity.’

Miss Lawton discussed her own experiences of children she has worked with who have experienced racism and gave scenarios to highlight these. She asked the children to think about how they should act to support one another and to stand up against racism.

Examples of racism are:

They discussed what the words stereotype, slur and racism meant and the impact racism has on everyone.

What is a stereotype?

A stereotype is a mistaken idea or belief many people have about a thing or group that is based upon how they look on the outside, which may be untrue or only partly true.

What is a slur

A slur is a word that is used to insult someone. It can be about the person’s skin colour and can make someone feel really upset or uncomfortable.

The children were asked, What do you want your legacy to be? They discussed whether they wanted to be remembered for being sporty, artistic, intelligent, or a good person.

Miss Lawton asked, ‘Think about what it must feel like to be a victim of racism.’ We spoke about the importance of telling someone and that it is your right to feel safe and respected. Miss Lawton reminded us that we are not ‘snitches,’ or, ‘tell-tales,’ if we report racism. It is important to stand up against what we know is wrong.

“Racism is never okay. It is never funny, it is never clever, it is never acceptable.”

“People can be anything they want to be. Race has nothing to do with it.”

All of the teachers were so impressed with the maturity, respect and kindness that was shown by the children during the session and were so pleased with how well they engaged. Well done Years 3, 4, 5 and 6! Please click here for the slides of the parent workshop on Anti-Racism.

Snacks at School

Please ensure that only fruit and vegetables are brought into school for snacks for enrichment clubs and break times. All children are encouraged to bring in fruit and vegetable each day to have as a snack.  Children in reception, year 1 and year 2 are provided with a fruit or vegetable under the government scheme, they can of course bring in an additional snack (fruit or vegetable) if they wish.  If your child attends an enrichment club, your child can also bring in a fruit and vegetable to have after school.  Please ensure children only bring in a piece of fruit or vegetable, which has been washed beforehand (no biscuits, cereal bars, cheeses or crisps).

Year Group News

Nursery

The children in the nursery have all been having an amazing time exploring the new nursery outdoor provision. They’ve been busy making mud pies and potions in the mud kitchen, looking for bugs and insects, exploring water play and developing their physical skills.

Reception

Reception children were thrilled to participate in a science workshop about floating and sinking, delivered by Hands on Science. They began by sorting objects into three categories: always float, sometimes float, and never float. This led to a lively discussion about what makes objects float or sink, considering factors like material, weight, and shape. The children predicted whether different materials—metal, plastic, plasticine, tissue, and foil—would float or sink. They then learned to make foil boats and tested how many metal nuts each boat could hold before sinking. To their surprise, some boats held up to 30 nuts!

Year 1

Year 1 had an incredible visit from the Wonderdrome! This magical event was an unforgettable experience for our young learners, blending education with the wonder of the universe.

‘I loved seeing all the planets’ - Lyra - Grasshopper

‘It was really exciting to learn about all the different planets’ - Faris- Butterfly

I learned that Saturn and Jupiter have rings that have dust and ice around them. Fraser - Dragonfly

Year 2

This Friday, our Year 2 students set on an exciting trip to Southend-on-Sea to learn about the different coastal features. They used their senses by writing about what they can see, hear, touch, and smell, ready to put their observations to the test. Armed with "kebab sticks" to identify coastal features, they pointed out the different features, felt the sand between their fingers, and listened to the sounds of the sea.

Year 3

Year 3 has crammed so much into the last few weeks! We had a fantastic time at the sleepovers. It was the first time sleeping away from home for some children - so well done to them! During the day, the children enjoyed loads of outdoor activities, including parachute games, rounders and treasure hunts. Inside, they got to enjoy some interactive drawing and music activities on their chromebooks, as well as playing board games with friends. Dinner was a pizza party and we rounded the evening off with songs, toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate around the campfire. Bedtime with your buddies is extremely exciting, so not much sleep was had, as you can imagine, but the children enjoyed themselves and went home tired but happy on Saturday morning.

Year 4

What a busy few weeks it has been for our Year 4 children! Firstly, they had a wonderful time during their sleepover earlier this half term where they experienced sleeping outside in tents! For some of our children (and teachers), it was their very first camping experience! Throughout the day, the children participated in various team building activities including gutter games, orienteering, team sports and parachute games. The games got very competitive! To promote this exciting event, the children demonstrated their creativity by designing a poster in various ways, including Google Slides and Canva. During dinner, all of the children enjoyed delicious pizza and cupcakes for dessert. If that was not all, we ended the evening by sitting around the campfire singing songs, toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate until it was time to get ready for bed! Not very much sleep was had but all of the children had a great time!

In addition, the children showed excellent resilience and perseverance in completing their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)! Not only have they been diligently practising their times tables all year but have been working incredibly hard to apply them in their learning. We are extremely proud of the children for having a growth mindset and know that they have tried their absolute best to learn their times tables - which is the most important thing!

Year 5

Year 5 students took their learning out of the classroom with an educational trip to Walton on the Naze, where they explored the dynamic process of coastal erosion and the various measures implemented to protect the shorelines. This hands-on experience allowed the students to observe firsthand the effects of natural forces on the coastline. They examined the cliffs, identifying different types of rock formations and noting how some materials are more susceptible to erosion than others. The students also learned about longshore drift and how waves shape the landscape, reinforcing concepts they had previously studied in the classroom.

During their visit, the students investigated the various coastal defence mechanisms in place at Walton on the Naze. They observed sea walls, groynes and revetments, discussing how each structure helps mitigate the impact of the sea on the land. By analysing these features, the students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of coastal management in preserving shorelines and protecting communities from erosion. This trip not only reinforced their geological knowledge but also highlighted the practical applications of their studies in real-world environmental conservation efforts.

Year 6

We had the exciting opportunity to visit Chickenshed Theatre, where we enjoyed an exclusive backstage tour to see how a theatre operates behind the scenes. We also honed our acting techniques with the guidance of acting professionals who helped us enhance our stage presence and confidence when performing. Their support has equipped us with the essential skills for our final production!
