Message from the Headteacher
Dear parents
Today, it was wonderful to see the children dressed in their pyjamas to support our fundraising efforts. Thank you to everyone for your enthusiastic participation and generosity in helping raise money for our school
This week, we were delighted by the Year 1 singing concert. The children put on a fantastic performance, showcasing their hard work and talent. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and the joy they brought to the audience.
A huge well done to the children in Year 6 who worked so hard on their SATs tests last week. They have shown incredible dedication and resilience. Now, they are channeling their energy into practicing for their end-of-year performance, which promises to be an exciting and memorable event!
You should have received my letter about requesting volunteers for the GPPSA. We urgently need parents to step forward and join the committee. The GPPSA is instrumental in organising a variety of social events that build our school community and raise much-needed funds. If you are interested in becoming a member of the GPPSA, please click here. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 18 June at 6:30pm at the school to meet with the current committee and discuss what the roles involve and key information.
Make sure you have Sunday, 7th July in your diary for our Summer Fayre. The children in Years 1 through 6 will also be performing in the Dance Showcase, adding to the festivities of the day!
Hope you have a wonderful half term holiday and see you all back at school on Monday 3 June.
With my very best wishes
Tijen Hassan

Mental Health and Wellbeing
Last week, our school participated in Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, a time dedicated to fostering understanding and support for mental health among our young learners. This year, the theme was "Movement: Moving for your mental health" which emphasises the importance of physical activity for our mental health and wellbeing. Regular exercise helps reduce symptoms of anxiety and depressions, enhances mood, and boosts self-esteem. It promotes better sleep, improves focus and academic performance, and fosters social skills through team sports and group activities. Encouraging physical activity from a young age establishes healthy habits that can lead to lifelong benefits for both our mental and physical health.
To kick off the week, the Anti Bullying Ambassadors held a special assembly focused on mental health awareness and the importance of physical health. We looked at different pictures of people engaging in physical activity and thought about how they were feeling and how we knew it. We spoke about strategies (tactics) that help support our mental health and wellbeing and discussed the benefits of physical activity with a particular emphasis on understanding endorphins.
The children were then challenged to move for at least one hour everyday. To help them, we set extra activities on the playgrounds each day such as dancing, team games and garden yoga and ended each lunchtime with a daily mile.
Here are some tips to support you with talking to your child about mental health

Relationships and Health Education
Thank you to those of you that attended our recent parent workshops relating RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) at Grange Park School. Relationships and Health Education at Grange Park Primary School is delivered through the ‘Relationships’ and ‘Changing Me’ Jigsaw puzzle pieces, which are covered in the summer term. Our spiral curriculum, which includes sex education at Y6, has been carefully planned to prepare our pupils for life in modern Britain, ensuring they understand the diverse world they are growing up in today. Each year group is taught in a way that is appropriate to their age and developmental stage. If you missed the workshops, here are the slides where you will find more information about how RSE is implemented at Grange Park. If you would like further information about specific lesson content. Please contact the main office.

Information for Parents
Grange Park Outdoor Learning
We are thrilled to share with you the exciting news that our introduction of loose parts, more specifically, crates and tyres onto the playgrounds has been a resounding success! Since their implementation, we have witnessed an incredible transformation in the playtime experiences, with children enthusiastically engaging in imaginative, creative, and collaborative play like never before.
The addition of these open-ended materials has truly changed the vibe in our playgrounds, fostering an atmosphere of exploration, experimentation, and joy.
We will be introducing more loose parts next half term and are excited to continue enhancing our playgrounds and providing even more exciting opportunities for enriching our playtimes.
We are still seeking donations, specifically donations of lengths of decking, planks of scaffolding boards (free from nails and rough edges), guttering, piping and tubing and showerproof fabrics. See the poster below, and really do appreciate your continued support. If you are able to donate or would like further information about how you can contribute, please do not hesitate to contact Brogan Richards or Rebecca Neale via the school office.
Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm as we continue to nurture the growth and development of our children through play.
Walk to School Week
Grange Park celebrated Walk to school week w/c 20.5.2024. The week started with an assembly to the whole school on the benefits of walking to school and walking to school in an eco-friendly way. We discussed different ways to use active travel to Walk to School, staying healthy and reasons why walking to school is better for the environment.
On Tuesday 21.5.2024 the MPs completed a Walk to School survey with the whole school! We were very impressed with our results. The majority of children at Grange Park either walk to school or park and stride. Congratulations everyone! What a fantastic achievement. Remember to always stay as active as possible!
Year 6’s were on their bicycles for Bikeability. Some of our year 6’s were given the excellent opportunity to do the Bikeability training, a nationally recognised cycle training programme, at Level 2. This safe, structured and standardised programme is designed to make our children more competent cyclists and prepare them for cycling on the road, and it did just that. We are so proud of those who completed the training, they were a credit to themselves and Grange Park.

Year Group News
Nursery
Acorn class have continued to explore our topic ‘The World Around Us.’ They’ve shown lots of interest in looking for insects and bugs. Using magnifying glasses the children have looked carefully at how the insects move and how to care for them.
We have also enjoyed meeting our new arrivals, our three new chickens!
Reception
Reception have been exploring the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly. We started with tiny caterpillars that the children carefully nurtured and fed until they more than doubled in size. Once fully grown, the children watched in awe as the caterpillars hung upside down and formed chrysalises. With great patience, they observed the butterflies emerging over the next week. This hands-on experience introduced the children to new vocabulary such as "metamorphosis" and inspired some fantastic writing.
Year 1
Recently Year 1 had the pleasure of attending forest school. Year 1 took part in different activities such as bug hunting, building shelters and leaf painting.
‘’My favourite part of forest school was making mud cakes for all of my friends’’ - Butterfly class
“I liked making things with mud, it was so fun” - Dragonfly class
“I enjoyed being outside and made a den” - Grasshopper class
“I loved going on a tour through the cave with my friends!" - Ladybird class
Year 2
As part of our geography topic, Year 2 students had an adventurous day out at Trent Park! Armed with compasses, they became keen explorers navigating the cardinal directions of north, south, east, and west. They explored the local area with great enthusiasm, learning valuable navigation skills.
Year 3
As part of our history topic, Year 3 went back in time to 1922, when archaeologist Howard Carter and his team entered Tutankhamun’s tomb! Our classrooms became dimly lit secret passageway through the pharaoh’s final resting place. We learnt about the unrivalled treasures found inside. We used our observational skills and drew sketches and made notes about the objects, just like Carter did. Finally, we considered what the artefacts told us about ancient Egyptian life.
Year 4
In religion and worldviews, Year 4 has been looking at the rules that are followed by religious and non- religious people. The children looked at what religious stories tell us about temptation, focusing on the story of Adam and Eve and also the temptation that Jesus faced. They learnt that Jesus faced three temptations when he was in the wilderness. After learning about these temptations, children worked in groups to think about what Jesus may have been thinking during the time he was being tempted.
Year 4 thought about times when they may have been tempted in their own lives. They had great discussions about the challenge of always doing the right thing, that we all make mistakes at times and that we have rules to help us know how to live, but it is not always easy to keep them.
Year 5
I am thrilled to share with you the discoveries from our recent science expedition around the school grounds. It was like a treasure hunt, but for science buffs! We spotted all kinds of plant life doing its thing. There were fruits packed with seeds just waiting to sprout, seeds of all shapes and sizes gearing up for their next adventure, and plants that were in the middle of their seed dispersal phase (nature’s way of hitting the refresh button). It was super interesting to see all the different ways plants spread their seeds and make sure their legacy lives on. It’s kind of inspiring, isn’t it? Let’s keep our eyes open for more of nature’s wonders – there’s always something new to learn right under our noses.
Year 6
To our year 6 superstars,
We hope this message finds you all beaming with pride and excitement, for we have the pleasure of congratulating each and every one of you on your incredible efforts in the build-up to and during the tests. The dedication, perseverance and hard work you have displayed is truly commendable!
In the weeks and months leading up to the tests, you showed immense resilience and determination. You have tackled challenging concepts, studied diligently and pushed yourselves to new heights of understanding. Your commitment to your education and the progress you have made is truly remarkable, and you should be immensely proud of yourselves.
Now, as we await the results, we want to emphasise something very important: regardless of the outcome, you are all extraordinary individuals. These tests are just one way of assessing your academic progress, but they do not define your intelligence, character or worth. Your efforts and growth throughout this journey are what truly matter.
Remember, you are so much more than numbers on a test paper. Your talents, skills, creativity, and unique qualities extend far beyond any assessment. The experiences you've had, the friendships you've forged, and the lessons you've learned are what shape you into the remarkable individuals you are becoming.
Each one of you has demonstrated a willingness to learn, a thirst for knowledge, and the courage to face challenges head-on. These qualities will continue to serve you well in all aspects of life, not just in education. Your ability to think critically, solve problems, and persevere in the face of adversity is what will truly make a difference as you move forward.
So, when the results arrive, I urge you not to worry or let them define your worth. Celebrate your efforts, your growth, and the progress you have made. Reflect on the journey you have embarked upon, the friendships you have fostered, and the knowledge you have gained. Those are the true measures of success.
We are immensely proud of each and every one of you. Your efforts and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and they will continue to shape your future successes. So, celebrate your achievements, embrace your uniqueness, and never stop believing in your abilities.
With heartfelt admiration,
Year 6 teachers
