Aslamu alikum everyone,
The students were very busy this week.
In Math, students worked on Chapter 10, they read a clock and learned to read the time to the nearest minute. Students used a timeline to tell the time after and before midnight. They finished Mid Chapter Checkpoint. They also learned how to measure length to the nearest inch.
In ELA, students started their informational writing next week about animals. They did research on their Chrome books by collecting facts, individually. Some of them are almost done with their research.
In Science, students continued Chapter 5, lesson 1, Animals Without Backbones. The corn which they planted is growing, and we are watering it.
Students finishedTeranova testing last week.
Many students are done with their Reading testing on Literably.
All students are practicing their scripts for the end-of-the year-Cermony. I will send an e-mail with all the details.

End of Year Ceremony is on Thursday 6/2 from 11:00-12:00 pm. ****According to school policy, students are not allowed to sell or collect money during school time for non-school-related activities.

The students had a very busy week.
In Math, students were tested in Chapter 9, they practiced fraction lessons on I-ready. Thye used fraction lines when they were assessed to help them solve their questions. Next week, students will start Chapter 10, Time, Length, Liquid Volume & Mass.
In ELA, students read a new story, Unit 5 Lesson 25. They read about the author's purpose and solved a sheet. They practiced punctuation and will start their informational writing next week about animals.
In Science, students started Chapter 5, lesson 1, How to Classify Animals. Last week, we had a great visit from one of the parents, Bfrother Qasim, who shared his passion for planting. The students had the opportunity to plant corn in our classroom. They had so many questions and I hope they can have a similar experience with you as well at home.
In Social Studies, students finished a mini book about Preamble, next week they will start a new topic, about protecting the environment from pollution.
Students finished I-Ready testing this week. Next week will be TeraNova testing. Please help them to eat a healthy meal, sleep well and rest. They can do their best, it's testing their knowledge and what they have been studying all year.
Help your child to come on time, we are following a schedule for testing, from 8:05 to 9:25 am every day, all next week.

April 24 - April 28
Eid Mubarak everyone,
I hope you had an enjoyable Eid celebration.
The students started their first day coming back to school, with a delicious breakfast and ended the day with so many fun activities. They had a blast taking pictures, face painting and playing different games, and collecting presents.
On Tuesday, the I-ready assessment started and it will continue till next Tuesday.
In Math, students continued Chapter 9, by comparing fractions. Students are using fraction strips and circles to solve their assignments. I assigned fraction lessons on I-ready for students to practice more. Please make sure homework is done daily, fraction needs a lot of practice from everyone.
In ELA, students read a new story, Unit 5 Lesson 24. They read several texts and practiced different kinds of texts, persuasive, informative, and entertaining. They cut & glue them in their notebook.
In Science, students finished chapter 4, lesson 5, what are the life cycles of some plants? They also learned the difference between a life cycle of a flowering plant and of a conifer plant.

I can't believe half the month of Ramadan passed, students are excited about the Eid/Spring break.
In Math, students started Chapter 9 by comparing fractions. I assigned fraction lessons on I-ready for students to practice more.
In ELA, students worked as surgeons, learning about Text Features. They searched, cut, and glued their own project. They had a fun snow fight, learning about comparing & contrasting two different topics. They had a blast.
Students were very busy finalizing their opinion writing, they edited their work and had their final piece to be published.
Please take the opportunity to purchase the book, it will be an awesome experience for the children.
In Science, students finished chapter 3, lesson 4, How stems help plants to grow? & what types of stems?
In Social Studies, students are learning about the Constitution and the Preamble.
Our Field trip to "Hidden Villa", will be on Wednesday 12 of April, please send your child's lunch, water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. It will be easier if they bring a light backpack to carry while hiking.

Good to see many faces in the taraweeh, I was excited to meet my students praying, mashallah.
Students are curious to ask who is fasting in class, and I am trying to encourage them to fast, but there are others that still cannot do it, talk to your child about peer pressure.
In Math, students finished Fractions, Chapter 8, and they are done with the chapter review test, I also assigned it on "Think Central. Students will start Chapter 9 next week.
In ELA, students are working on Unit 5, they worked in pairs to practice adverbs that compare. They also worked on the main idea and details.
The opinion writing will be published in a book, and I will send you more details, your help will be needed to purchase them.
In Science, students finished chapter 3, lesson 3. They are studying how plants use roots and stem to grow.
In Social Studies, students continue to learn about the 3 branches of government (Judicial, executive & legislative).
Our Field trip to "Hidden Villa", will be on Wednesday 12 of April, thanks to all the parents who wanted to volunteer, we choose 3 and if we need more will let you know.

I wish you and your family a very blessed Ramadan.
Thank you for coming to the parents' meeting and I am glad to share with you, your child's progress.
In Math, students started Fractions, Chapter 8, they are practicing by drawing equal groups and how to calculate fractions on a number line. Students logged into "Think Central" at school, and they did games on fractions which really helped them to understand it.
In ELA, students are done reading "James & The Giant Peach", and had an open test book.
Students will be tested in Unit 4 next week in Grammar & Comprehension strategies.
Most students are done with their opinion writing, it will be graded.
In Science, students started chapter 3 lessons 1 & 2. They are studying how to classify plants, and how plants use leaves to make food.
In Social Studies, students had their test about the 3 branches of government (Judicial, executive & legislative).
Both 3A & 3B will go on a field trip to "Hidden Villa", this is the only day that we were able to reserve. We need 3 volunteers with 3A, each volunteer will pay $20. I will send more details next week.

In Math, students are done with Chapter 7, they are dividing by 11 now, and are practicing all divisions by 2, 10, 5, 3,4,6,7,8 & and 9. Next week they will have an assessment in Chapter 7. I assigned a chapter test review online (Think Central). Next week, the students will start Chapter 8, understand Fractions.
This week students had an amazing time in "Read Across America", students wore their favorite character from "Alice in Wonderland", and grade 8 students came and had, reading buddies with 3A students.
In ELA, students read 36 chapters from "James & The Giant Peach". They are predicting the events and are learning new vocabulary while reading each chapter.
In Science, students finished chapter 2 and started chapter 3.
In Social Studies, students learned about the 3 branches of government (Judicial, executive & legislative).
All students are done with their Reading Assessment.
Mrs. Arooj visits our class every other week, and the students are discussing coping strategies for anger and the ways to control it.

Salam everyone,
In Math, students are almost done with Chapter 7, they learned to divide by 2, 10, 5, 3,4,6,7,8 & and 9. Next week they will finish chapter 7 and will do a chapter test review. They are practicing it well and are doing an amazing job.
Meet the author:
Students listened to the story "Stand for Palestine" by the author "Eman Kortam", and they had a great time.
Next week will have "Read Across America", students will come on Monday wearing their favorite character from "Alice in Wonderland", and grade 8 students will come to have reading buddies with 3A students.
In ELA, students read 23 chapters from "James & The Giant Peach". They are predicting the events and putting their thoughts into their art project. They are almost done with their opinion writing. They are editing, revising, and putting in a lot of effort.
This week, students started to practice fluency in drama, and short scripts. Students will do a short performance at the end of the school. I am encouraging them to be confident while acting.
In Science, students finished lesson 7.
In Social Studies, students did well in the assessment and started "The Civil Rights Movement".
I started assessing the students in Reading, and inshallah will be done by next week.

Feb 12 - Feb 24
Hello everyone,
In Math, students completed Chapter 6, and did a great job in their assessment. They started Chapter 7 division facts & strategies. They learned to divide by 2, 10, 5, and 3. Next week they will learn how to divide by 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9. They are using counters and timetables to answer their equations.
Students completed their project about "Bessie Coleman". The wall outside the class is full of paper planes and facts about her. The Students' council organized a reading time, and a high school student visited our class and read a story to the class acknowledging "Black History Month".
In ELA, students read 18 chapters from "James & The Giant Peach". They learned the figure of speech "Simile", (comparing one thing to another), asked questions, and read and predicted events. They are having a blast. They are still working on their writing piece about opinion. They are following a rubric to show them how to reason their opinion. I work with each student, one on one, helping and advising them with their writing piece.
In Science, students are learning how energy travels (Chapter 2). They finished lesson 5. They will continue lesson 6 and revise.
In Social Studies, students did well in the assessment and started "The Civil Rights Movement".
Students made a beautiful art project, "Contrast Flowers"; it turned out beautifully. I am very proud of them, they did it with a sub last Friday.
Brain Breakers, the students exercise between lessons, they follow instructions breathe, and do a few stretches.
Some students came to me with some issues at lunchtime last week, we started having short discussions about empathy, and how can they solve problems without involving adults; it comes by training and working together.
Remember I-Ready is very helpful to your child as well as Raz-Kids; 20 minutes a day can make a difference.

Hello everyone,
Students completed Chapter 6, understanding division. They will work on the Chapter 6 Review on Monday & Tuesday. Students will start Chapter 7 division facts & strategies. They will learn to divide by 2 to 10.
Students had a fun time doing paper planes to use in their Black History project about "Bessie Coleman". Students worked in groups, searching, and collecting facts about her. They colored planes and helped in decorating the class board.
In ELA, students learned Unit 3 Lesson 15, and worked on their writing piece about opinion. Each one chose a topic to write about. They checked their work, and edited it with a partner. All students helped me model an opinion text on the board. It helped them to understand how to write their reasons on their own.
In Science, students are learning how energy travels (Chapter 2). They finished lesson 4. They will continue lesson 5 and revise.
In Social Studies, students are done with the assessment and will start a new topic "Civil Rights Movement".
There is a Math assignment on Think Central for Chapter 6 Review

Hello everyone,
Students started Chapter 6, understanding division. They finished mid chapter checkpoint. Students learned repeated subtraction. They used a number line, groups of counters, and tables to find the number of groups. The new vocabulary was dividend, divisor, and quotient.
Students did an art project about designing a zoo, they had to multiply and divide in designing the zoo.
In ELA, students learned Unit 3 Lesson 14, " Aero and Officer Mike", it's an informational text, and they learned what's an author opinion means.
They worked in centers to play a scoot game, to decide if the author's purpose is to persuade, inform or entertain.
In Science, students are learning how energy travels (Chapter 2). They finished lesson 3. They had 2 experiments with milk, water, and a flashlight. They learned how light reflects, refracts, and absorbs.
In Social Studies, students finished their Gold Rush project.

Hello everyone,
Students had an awesome STEAM NIGHT this week.
Students reviewed Chapter 5 in Math, and are done with their assessment. They started Chapter 6, understanding division. They will use picture graphs to draw equal groups. They will use counters, and tables to find their answers.
Students came with their STEAM outfits, our class had scientists, engineers, and artists.
In ELA, students had a second reading about "Younder Mountaotains", they finished their writing by comparing and contrasting the characters in a Venn diagram.
They played a game finding all the verbs that agree with the subject (subject-verb agreement).
In Science, students are learning how energy travels (Chapter 2).
In Social Studies, students started a new chapter about the Gold Rush. They watched several videos about how did people come to California, and when did the Gold Rush start? They will start a project next week to show how boomtowns start a business. They will work in groups and share the information learned.
Students colored rocks in Art class, they were very creative, it was messy but it was worth trying.

Hello everyone,
Students had a long weekend and came back full of energy.
We started the week with Algebra in Chapter 5 Math, students will have the Chapter 5 Review test next Monday and the Chapter test next Wednesday. Please help your child to go on Think-Central and finish the pre-test Chapter review. Remember do not submit until your child is done with the whole review.
Students enjoy the physical movements with light music in class, and it became one of our daily tools for breakers.
In ELA, students read Unit 3, lesson 13. They will continue next week to work on comparing and contrasting the characters in a Venn diagram.
They learned about quotations, so next week they will pick one of the characters and will act it out in class.
In Science, students are learning about energy and its forms (Chapter 2).
In Social Studies, students will be tested on the Indian American Chapter. They will start a new chapter about the Gold Rush.

***** Students had a very relaxed winter break, stay safe and healthy.
Next week, students will have Monday & Tuesday off, no school.
We started the week with group work and some Math revision.
We are using some physical movements with light music in class, and students are taking part to lead the class.
In ELA, students started Unit 3, lesson 12. They learned what a trickster tale means. They wrote a detailed summary of the story "Tops & Bottoms".
They learned quotation marks in a sentence and what are homophones.
In Math, students started a new chapter about multiplication facts, they learned how to describe a pattern. Students learned how to find an unknown number ( 30 = n x 6, n=5). They did the
mid-chapter checkpoint and practiced in their workbooks.
In Science, students started Chapter 2, energy and its forms.
In Social Studies, students are learning about Northeast and Southeast Woodlands.
Students are creating their own Native American Vests in Art.

***** Students cheered for Morocco and watched the game during their lunch break.
** Students are done with their ELA testing on I-ready. Students will continue Math testing on Monday.
In ELA, students started Unit 3, lesson 11. They learned how technology helped sports and athletes.
Next week, students will continue their writing assignment about a trip they took before, they will write their draft and will do peer and self-editing.
In Math, students are learning about associative property and patterns of multiplication, they learned how products can be odd or even. Students will have the Chapter 4 test on Thursday. I assigned chapter 4 pre-test on Think Central.
In Science, students will start Chapter 3.
In Social Studies, students are learning about the plains and Northwest Pacific tribes.
Students are creating their own totem poles in Art, next week they will do their own Native American Vests.
**** We still need 20 plain brown bags for the Art Project, from any
supermarket, (that will go towards your hours).
**** We also need 25 cups and plates.

Thank you for your generosity in adding new books to our class library, my wish came true, and my bin is empty in the library.
** ELA, Unit 2 test: Students are done with the assessment.
****Students will start I-ready testing next Tuesday, please make sure your child sleeps early, eat a healthy meal, and is dropped to school on time.
In ELA, students started a new writing assignment about a trip they took before, they brainstormed and wrote their details.
In Math, students are learning to multiply with 6,7,8, and 9. They do morning drills, as well as revise their multiplication with writing on wheels.
In Science, students are learning about the Scientific tools for Scientists.
In Social Studies, students are watching videos, about different tribes of Native Americans. They are working on their new project.
For the next 2 weeks, students will be working on different Art & Social Studies projects.
Monday is teachers in service, no school for students.
Students need to collect the following:
= 20 Paper towel empty rolls ( one for each student)
= I would like to have 20 big brown paper bags from any
supermarket, (that will go towards your hours).

Nov 28 - Dec 2
Thank you for coming to our parent conferences, meeting you in person, and discussing your child's academic concerns. The students came back fresh and ready to accomplish.
** Lockdown drill: Students were very quiet, read a book, and followed teachers' instructions. The boys took a big responsibility for securing our class by moving desks and chairs behind the door. Chapeau for all!!
Students are working very hard on their writing, reading, and multiplication skills.
In ELA, they read an autobiography, about Thomas Edison. They illustrated the events on each page and wrote a brief summary in a sequence form. They use their dictionary in their daily work. They are writing in their journals every morning.
In Math, students started Chapter 4, they skipped counting by 5 and 10 this week. They practiced multiplying by 1,2,3,4,5 & 10 by drawing wheels and multiplying different facts. They played several Math Games in pairs.
In Science, students are learning new vocabulary in their hypotheses and writing their conclusions.
In Social Studies, students are taking notes, highlighting, and writing about Native Americans.
Next week, students will have an ELA Unit 2 test, starting on Tuesday. All workbooks and notebooks were sent home today for revision. In class, students will be revising, comprehension skills, such as the main idea, and retelling a story in sequence events.
Students will keep using I-Ready and Raz-Kids every week.
** I changed the Reading levels for all students on Raz-kids, mashallah they all moved one or two levels up. Way to go Stars!!
Book Fair is on Dec 2 till Dec 9, please visit the library with your child, he/she has a wish list for some books.

Nov 14 - Nov 22
The students are working very hard on their writing, reading, and multiplication skills.
In ELA, they read a realistic fiction story "Kamishibai Man", and they learned the difference between abstract and common nouns. They analyzed the text for cause and effect. They started a new topic for their writing paragraphs.
They used their dictionaries and worked with their partners to write the vocabulary for this lesson.
In Math, students worked very hard learning multiplication, they practiced repeated addition, and groups. They are practicing their multiplication with different games in centers. They cut, glued, and counted arrays in their Art lesson by drawing different homes in the city.
In Science, students did several experiments. They are investigating and drawing conclusions. They are researching, learning what is a hypothesis, asking questions, and collecting evidence.
In Social Studies, students are taking notes, highlighting, and writing about Coastal & Desert Regions.
I will continue using STEM games and activities in class, as well as Character Building activities which will help them develop a variety of skills.
Next week, students will have a Chapter test (Chapter 3). All books will be sent home for revision on Friday. I already assigned Chapter Review on Think Central. The test will be on Monday, Nov 21.
Reading enhances your child's reading level as well as their vocabulary. Encourage your child to read. Starting next week, students will be graded for every book they read on Raz-Kids and it can go toward their 30 or 40 Challenges for Reading.

Oct 31 - Nov 11
**The students enjoyed their trip to Trader Joe's. They learned where bananas grow. They met the person who fills the fridge and works behind the seen, and they went inside the freezer. They had an awesome experience. They shopped, picked their items, paid for their shopping, and counted their money. Their time in the park was very special, with their friends. Thanks to all the volunteers, who chaperoned and assisted all the children.
In ELA, they read a story about "The Harvest Birds", and they are working very hard in their paragraphs. They are writing context clues and conclusions. They practiced how to write a story in a sequence, using commas and correct punctuation.
They will continue using their dictionaries, and learning new vocabulary.
In Math, students started a new chapter, about multiplication, they are using repeated addition, combining equal groups, and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. They prepared their own number lines to use during Math lessons. They are practicing their multiplication with different games in centers.
In Science, students were tested in chapter 1 and they are studying about different tools which scientists are using. They are experimenting, investigating, and drawing conclusions.
In Social Studies, students started a new chapter, they are learning about different regions.
I started to use STEM games and activities in class, it helps their self-esteem and develops a variety of skill sets.
Next week, students will continue to multiply and will have a Chapter review test. All books will be sent home for revision before the test. The test will be in the week of Nov 21.

Oct 24 - Oct 28
**The students had a great experience in the Eagle Run, although we had a student with a fractured arm, still she ran with her classmates. They were all superstars. They ate rainbow cupcakes prepared by me as a surprise for all their hard work this week.
In ELA, they read a story about what illustrators do, and they wrote and drew their own comic stripes. They are writing verbs on the present, past, and future. They are working on their paragraphs, editing, and revising. Their final writing paragraphs are going to be published next week.
****** Please send a dictionary with your child, if your child does not have one yet.
Next week we will work on dictionary skills as well as verbs and idioms.
They used their dictionaries and learned how to look for the meaning of words.
In Math, they will start a new chapter, about multiplication, and it will need a lot of practicing and activities. They were tested in chapter 2, which was about graphs.
In Science, students revised chapter 1 and had a chapter test. Next week, students will start a new chapter which will be about The Nature of Science.
In Social Studies, students will finalize their project and will start regions.
Next week, both grade three classes will go on their first field trip:
Students will:
Wear their school uniform
Bring their water bottles
Brig $10 to buy a few healthy items.
This is an educational field trip, they learn about spending money, adding and subtracting.

**The students are very excited about Eagle Run and are having an ecstatic time during their lunch, playing different games.
In ELA, they read a story about bats, and they are learning how to write a story in sequence. They are revising verbs and learning what is verb to be (verb been). They are practicing writing their paragraphs, editing, and revising.
Next week we will continue to study verbs as well as idioms.
They will start using their dictionaries and learning how to check the meaning of words.
In Math, they continued using different kinds of graphs, such as picture graphs, tally graphs, and bar graphs. They did a line graph as well. Homework was checked during class time.
Next week, students will revise and will have a Chapter 2 test on Thursday. (Please check Think Central for Chapter test revision).
In Science, students revised chapter 1 and had a chapter test. Next week, students will start a new chapter which will be about The Nature of Science.
In Social Studies, students will continue their project about California and the symbols of the Golden State. They will continue their project and will have a chapter test.
Please encourage your child to do both Raz-Kids and I-ready at home, I-ready assists in Math and Reading.

**The students had a great time when the fire truck visited our school on Thursday. They listened to the firefighter and asked him tons of questions, it was a unique experience for them.
**Students had their first Unit test in ELA.
In ELA, they revised the story of Roberto Clemente and compared it to Koby Bryan. They watched 2 videos and continued the Venn Diagram. They edited their work with one of their peers.
The exam went well and they submitted their paragraph as well about food that they don't like.
In Math, they did different kinds of graphs, such as picture graphs, tally graphs, and bar graphs. Thye used balloons and apples to do their graphs. Homework was checked during class time.
In Science, students will revise the chapter and will have a test by the end of next week. Students will do their revision in class, nothing will be sent home.
In Social Studies, students will start their project about California and the symbols of the Golden State. They will cut and glue to complete their project.
Please encourage your child to do both Raz-Kids and I-ready at home, I-ready assists in Math and Reading.
Encourage your child to finish the 20 Book Challenge.
Go to Clever and check out "SORA", it's a great addition to our school library. Your child can borrow a book and enjoy reading it at home, it has all kinds of interesting stories in English and Arabic as well.

Sept 26 to Sep 30
Students had a great week, practicing, reading, coloring, and working hard.
In ELA, they read the story of Pop's Bridge and learned how working hard to build a bridge was part of teamwork. Charlie and Robert were two boys who were watching their dads doing a very unique job in building a bridge.
Students read 2 different stories and compared characters, plot, and setting.
Students worked in groups to write their own common and proper nouns. They cut & pasted the words and completed their activity.
In Math, they reviewed Chapter One, using different strategies. They revised vocabulary and worked on their workbooks. Homework was checked during class time.
In Science, students had a tug-war game, they were divided into 4 teams. They played and tried to save their team. They learned that unbalanced forces can cause an object at rest to move, They learned about motion and combined forces( the wind pushes a kite up).
In Social Studies, students continued the map of the 50 states. They read a story about the Golden Gate Bridge, so they drew a map of California and drew the location of the Golden Bay Bridge.
On Thursday, students enjoyed Hawaiian Spirit Day.
Students will start Chapter 2 in Math next week.
Take the benefit of Raz-kids and I-Ready, they are great resources for your child.
Encourage your child to discuss a story they have read, ask him/her who are the characters, and what is the story about.

Sept 19 to Sep 23
Students had a busy week, working, experimenting and celebrating.
In ELA, they read the story of Destiny's gift and learned how helping someone in a community was very essential. Destiny was a regular girl who enjoyed spending time in the bookstore and jumped in to help the owner when she needed help. It was a great story about friendship and creativity. Students elaborated their understanding of the story by completing a graphic organizer explaining the traits of the character.
Students worked in groups to form sentences using conjunctions. They cut & pasted the words and completed their card game. It was a fun learning game.
In Math, they practiced Mental Math Strategies for both Subtraction and Addition (lesson 1.9). They used place values to subtract (lesson 1.10). They revised rounding, and estimate in addition and subtraction. They had daily Math drills on regrouping addition and subtractions. Homework was corrected during class time and students made corrections. They worked on I-Ready during the week as well.
In Science, students had a bowling game, they threw the ball and saw how the ball slow down over its course. The main cause was friction. The students had a blast.
In Social Studies, students studied the map of the 50 states. They drew a map of their own classroom and learned the direction of a compass.
On Wednesday, students celebrated International Peace Day by expressing themselves and working on a class art project, they decorated doves and colored thoughtful words to share with their class. They ended the project by eating dates and chocolate.
More students reached the goal of 20 reading challenges and will start the 30 reading challenges, if the whole class reached the goal, we will have an ice cream party.
I-Ready is 45 minutes of homework each week, please help your child to log in. (Sometimes I will assign Math lessons to practice).
Raz-kids is very effective and will enhance your child's reading level.

Sept 12 to Sep 16
Students worked very hard this week, they completed their I-Ready assessment.
In ELA, they learned about trial, evidence, and jury. They participated in a case in which the Owl was found guilty. Students came back from the Computer lab and found that their classroom is messy and there was evidence that someone came to their class while they were out. They collected evidence and solved the case, it was a lot of fun to find out that the owl was in trouble.
Students were divided into groups to write different kinds of sentences (Command, Statement, Exclamation, or Question). Each group came up with their own sentences, they acted them out too.
In Math, they practiced using properties to add by 10s and 100s (lesson 1.5). They added using strategies to break apart numbers (lesson 1.6) and to use place values to add (lesson 1.7). They learned how to use compatible numbers and rounding to estimate differences (lesson 1.8).
In Science, students learned about variable & constant speed. They drew an airplane to see how it keeps its constant speed.
In Social Studies, students studied finding our community in a continent and finding community in a state.
I am excited to announce that I have a student who reached the goal of 20 reading challenges and will start the 30 reading challenges next week.

Sept 6 to Sep 9
Students were assessed in Math & Reading every day this week on
I-ready.
In ELA, they learned about the types of sentences in Unit 1 (subject & predicate), they worked in groups using their highlighters to choose the subject & the predicate.
They used Graphic Organizer to summarize a story, we will keep using Graphic Organizers in writing throughout the year.
They are writing in their daily journals and expressing themselves in drawing as well. They are practicing their phonics (a,e,i,o,u) and learning the words for their Friday Spelling Quiz.
They revised addition & subtraction, without grouping using drills, correcting their peers' work, and taking responsibility to correct their errors. They are working on estimate Chapter 1, Lesson 1, and will continue next week.
In Science, students learned about motion in lesson 1 & drew a map from their classroom to the cafeteria, to show what is the difference between motion, position & speed.
In Social Studies, students studied our community in a country (countries in North America) and they learned about California's borders.

Thank you so much for coming to Back to School Night, it was great meeting you all.
I am sharing the presentation for those who could not make it.
Students had their first Spelling quiz on Friday September 2.
They learned vocabulary, phonics, comprehension for Unit 1, Lesson 1 "Fine, Fine School" in ELA.
They revised regrouping in Math Chapter 1, lesson 1.
In Science they had an experiment about magnet; they used coin, rubber, magnet and paper clips.
In Social Studies they learned about their community and drew a map of their class and school.
Next week it's a short week, Labor Day weekend, and no school on Monday.
Homework folder will be sent on Tuesday, and will be returned on Friday.
Students will have their passwords for Raz-kids, it will be sent in the homework folder, please keep it home in a safe area for students to use.
Each student will receive a reading log, help them to do the Reading Challenge and finish 20 books.

News for 3A-week of
Aug 22- Aug 26
Students of 3A are working very hard to adjust to our daily schedule. They worked in pairs and groups to build together a house, talking and discussing what they did during summer, and playing group games as well. They started to add and subtract in fact's drill which they really enjoyed. They read stories and discussed the characters, setting, and plot. They read about filling their buckets with kind acts, and how others can fill their buckets as well with good deeds.
I assessed the whole class this week in Math and will continue assessing them in reading next week. Starting next week, we will start with our curriculum, Waiting to see you next

First week of School
The first week went pretty well, lots of rules and information, alhamdullah..
The students did great, they adjusted to the rules and are doing their best. Way to go 3A students!!
*** Friendly Reminder:
Send all supplies on Monday, if you are still purchasing some items in the list.
Students are decorating their journals, so make sure they have one by Monday, please send, pictures, coloring pages, magazine cut-outs, stickers, or anything that they would like to use to decorate their journals, it will be permanently.
Prayer rugs are needed for everyone and scarves for girls to pray, still we are missing few.
Pictures Day is on Monday 22nd August, students are required to be in proper uniform.
Please note that make up pictures will be on September 26, 2022.
Starting from beginning of September, we will share our class with Sunday school, so I was thinking that each student brings from home either a collapsible storage container or a plastic box with lid to keep all their supplies stored every Friday. Let me know if you have better ideas.
I emailed you 2 days ago about hobbies or interests of your child, hope to get respond from all.
It's very important to send your child with healthy lunch and snacks, water bottles as well which is reusable.
I will share back to school pictures (which I took yesterday) I will e-mail it to you individually.
