YAG Development
Develop Year-long Scope and Sequence (YAG)
Materials:
· Year at a Glance (YAG) or Scope and Sequence for instructional materials.
· YAG Calendar Updated for (2024-2025)
· Textbook resources
Steps for development:
1. If a tested grade level, mark the date(s) for your STAAR/EOC on YAG calendar
2. In pencil, map out the YAG or scope and sequence unit timelines onto the YAG calendar. (i.e. If 10 days is recommended for unit 1, mark that many days from the first day of instruction on the YAG calendar.)
3. Assessment: Add 1-2 additional days for each unit assessment and/or checkpoint.
4. When finished mapping all units on the YAG calendar, count the number of days between all content being taught and the STAAR/EOC test. You should leave a few weeks for review prior to STAAR/EOC. (3-4 weeks)
5. If you do not have enough time or too much time prior to the STAAR/EOC left in your YAG calendar go back and make adjustments.
6. Once all adjustments have been made and you feel comfortable with the YAG calendar, transfer your units onto the document electronically by highlighting the date ranges for each unit in a different color. (Example)
7. In the center column of the YAG calendar provide the unit titles and TEKS for each unit and match the highlight color for the unit.
8. Identify the readiness standards (Priority standards) on the YAG calendar by highlighting those in red.
9. Schedule checkpoints (Mark these on your YAG calendar):
Checkpoint 4 (released STAAR) will be given between March 28 - April 1.
Next, looking backwards from those dates, identify one unit assessment in the spring to serve as checkpoint 3.
Finally, identify two unit assessments in the fall to serve as checkpoints 1 & 2. Checkpoint 2 should fall just before Thanksgiving.
Mark these on the YAG calendar.
