Checklist for developing quality, valid checkpoints:
o Focus on Readiness Standards and then fill in with most tested supporting standards. (Lead4ward Frequency Distribution Table)
o Question format should be multiple-choice, griddable, and eventually open response.
o All questions should be STAAR format and STAAR level of rigor. Use STAAR released questions whenever possible but save the latest released STAAR for use as checkpoint #3.
o Include as many representations for each TEK as necessary. (Tables, graphs, equations, decimals, fractions, percent, etc.) (Link to lead4ward IQ)
o Based on data, spiral questions back in on future checkpoints for readiness standards.
o Alternate questions by standard so that there are no consecutive questions for the same TEK.
o Work the test and create an exemplar of each question.
o Follow guidance provided on appropriate length of checkpoints.
o Checkpoint #1: 10-16 questions
o Checkpoint #2: 16-22 questions
o Checkpoint #3: Latest released STAAR test.
