Ahmedabad Pride

Vibrant hues erupted across Ahmedabad as the city proudly hosted its first Pride Parade in three years! Organised by the Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation (GQPF), the Ahmedabad Pride Parade 2024 culminated a week-long celebration of love, diversity, and resilience on February 18th, bringing together over 1000 participants in a joyous display of LGBTQIA+ visibility and advocacy.

The journey began on February 4th with a Poster Making workshop, where 50 individuals channelled their unique identities and pride onto vibrantly colored canvases. These bold creations proudly marched alongside participants in the final parade.

As part of the "Paint the City Rainbow" initiative on February 11th, the GQPF team and volunteers transformed 2 locations; Family Planning Association of India’s office at Lal Darwaja and Blind People’s Association across the city with inspiring rainbow-themed graffiti, leaving a visible mark of inclusivity.

A full day of events on February 17th set the stage for the grand finale. Film screenings of "Pine Cone" by Onir and "Man & Wife" by Rahul Roye at Alliance Francaise Ahmedabad offered poignant cinematic narratives, preceded by a crucial session on the laws for the LGBTQIA+ community and how to access them, hosted by Centre for Social Justice. Participants emphasised the need for judicial literacy and awareness, ensuring legal understanding alongside vibrant self-expression.

The evening saw the "Here & Queer: Pre-Pride Party" take over, where 270-300 individuals celebrated through music, dance, and joyful connection. Finally, the Ahmedabad Pride Parade 2024 arrived, weaving a vibrant tapestry of pride through the city's streets. More than 1000 participants from across India took ownership of their spaces, proudly marching from Helmet Circle to Law Garden. The parade echoed a powerful message: "We exist, and we demand our rightful place!" Invigorating performances by queer artists at Law Garden capped off the joyous Celebration.

Ahmedabad Pride 2024 stands as a beacon of hope and progress. It reminds us that love, acceptance, and inclusivity are not merely aspirations, but vibrant realities pulsating through the heart of this city. Together, we move forward, embracing the rainbow colors of unity and demanding a future where every individual shines with their own unique brilliance.

Going forward, GQPF will be organizing Pride Parade not only in Gandhinagar but also in Ahmedabad. This expansion reflects our commitment to fostering inclusivity and visibility across Gujarat.

Ahmedabad Pride 2024 Parcha

This day on 18th February, 2024 Ahmedabad sees a Pride Parade after 3 years. Today the entire LGBTQIA+ community with our supporters stands together in Ahmedabad as one. We march for the rights of our community; the LGBTQIA+ community - PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE, and for our place in the society. Today we march in a colourful way, we dance and we sing on the streets of Ahmedabad. Today we remember the Pride Movement of India, we remember all the sacrifices made by the torchbearers of OUR community because of whom we can stand here proudly.

On this day we the LGBTQIA+ community march for our Right to Live a life with Dignity. We march against the discrimination and dehumanization of the kinnars, hijras, kothis, transperson, intersex individuals, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, gender non-conforming and non-binary people.

We march for demanding legislation for the protection of the LGBTQIA+ Community. We march against the orthodox mindset of society who strongly believe that we should not exist and that we are a disease.

We march against the discrimination in educational institutions and workplaces that pushes young individuals towards suicide. We march against bullying in schools and workplaces, and conversion therapy. We march to advocate for mandatory and regular gender and sexuality sensitization in schools, colleges and workplaces.

We march against those who incite hatred, and condemn lynchings based on gender, sexuality, caste, region, religion, race and ethnicity. We march against the persecution of all minority and marginalised communities. We march for Inclusion of all minorities in mainstream society.

We march for our friends whom we have lost. We march for the queer lives that have been lost because of violence, abuse and hatred and we stand with them and their families in solidarity. We march for our future generation, for young queer children who are scared and are trying to find a place in society. We march for those who are still forced to live a life of compromise and in shadows. This march is our right to protest. This march is for freedom. This march is for Love.

We march to boldly say that;

We are fighting for our right to live, to exist,

We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

WE ARE HERE, WE ARE QUEER

AND WE ARE HUMANS!!

અમદાવાદ પ્રાઇડ ૨૦૨૪ પરચા

18મી ફેબ્રુઆરી, 2024ના રોજ અમદાવાદમાં 3 વર્ષ પછી પ્રાઇડ પરેડ યોજાઈ છે. આજે સમગ્ર LGBTQIA+ સમુદાય અને સુમુદાયના સમર્થકો અમદાવાદમાં એક સાથે ઊભા છે. આપણે આપણા સમુદાયના, એટલે કે LGBTQIA+ સમુદાયના ભૂતકાળ, વર્તમાન અને ભવિષ્ય માટે, આપણા અધિકારો માટે અને સમાજમાં આપણા સ્થાન માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આજે આપણે રંગબેરંગી પરેડ કરીએ છીએ, આપણે અમદાવાદની શેરીઓમાં નાચીએ છીએ અને ગાઇએ છીએ. આજે આપણે ભારતની પ્રાઇડ ચળવળને યાદ કરીએ છીએ, આપણે આપણા સમુદાયના મશાલચીઓએ કરેલા એ તમામ બલિદાનોને યાદ કરીએ છીએ, જેમના કારણે આપણે અહીં ગર્વથી ઊભા છીએ.

આ દિવસે આપણે LGBTQIA+ સમુદાય ગૌરવ સાથે જીવન જીવવાના આપણા અધિકાર માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આપણે કિન્નર સુમદાય, હિજડા સુમદાય, કોથી, ટ્રાન્સ વ્યક્તિઓ, ઇન્ટરસેક્સ વ્યક્તિઓ, સમલૈંગી વ્યક્તિઓ, બાયસેક્સ્યુઅલ વ્યક્તિઓ , પેન્સેક્સ્યુઅલ વ્યક્તિઓ, જેન્ડર નોન કૉફોર્મિંગ અને નોન બાઈનરી લોકો પ્રત્યેના ભેદભાવ અને તેમના પ્રત્યેના અમાનવીય વ્યવહાર સામે કૂચ કરીએ છીએ.

આપણે LGBTQIA+ સમુદાયના રક્ષણ માટે કાયદાની માગણી માટે આ પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આપણે સમાજની રૂઢિચુસ્ત માનસિકતા સામે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ જે દ્રઢપણે માને છે કે આપણું અસ્તિત્વ હોવું જોઈએ નહીં અને આપણે એક રોગ છીએ.

આપણે શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્થાઓ અને કાર્યસ્થળોમાં ભેદભાવ સામે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ જે યુવાનોને આત્મહત્યા તરફ ધકેલે છે. આપણે શાળાઓ અને કાર્યસ્થળોમાં થતા અપમાન, અને કોનવરસન થેરાપી સામે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આપણે શાળાઓ, કોલેજો અને કાર્યસ્થળોમાં ફરજિયાત અને નિયમિત લિંગ અને લૈંગિકતા માટે સંવેદનાની હિમાયત કરવા માટે આ પરેડ કરીએ છીએ.

આપણે લિંગ, જાતિયતા, પ્રદેશ, ધર્મ, જાતિ અને વર્ગના આધારે નફરત ફેલાવનારા સામે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આપણે તમામ લઘુમતી અને હાંસિયામાં ધકેલાઈ ગયેલા સમુદાયોના અત્યાચાર સામે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ. આપણે મુખ્ય પ્રવાહના સમાજમાં તમામ લઘુમતીઓને સમાવવા માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ.

આપણે આપણા મિત્રો માટે કૂચ કરીએ છીએ જેમને આપણે ગુમાવ્યા છે. આપણે હિંસા, દુર્વ્યવહાર અને નફરતને કારણે ગુમાવેલા ક્વીર વ્યક્તિઓ માટે કૂચ કરીએ છીએ અને આપણે તેમની અને તેમના પરિવારો સાથે એકતામાં ઊભા છીએ. આપણે આપણી ભાવિ પેઢી માટે, યુવાન ક્વીર બાળકો માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ જેઓ ભયભીત છે અને સમાજમાં પોતાનું સ્થાન શોધવાનો પ્રયાસ કરી રહ્યા છે. આપણે એવા લોકો માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ જેઓ હજી પણ પડછાયામાં જીવન જીવવા માટે મજબૂર છે. આ પરેડ આપણી સાથે થતાં અન્યાયનો વિરોધ કરવા માટે છે. આ પરેડ આઝાદી માટે છે. આ પરેડ પ્રેમ માટે છે.

આપણે હિંમતભેર કહેવા માટે પરેડ કરીએ છીએ કે;

અમે અમારા જીવવાના, અસ્તિત્વના અધિકાર માટે લડી રહ્યા છીએ,

અમે શાંતિથી રાતમાં ખોવાઈ જશું નહીં!

અમે લડ્યા વિના અદૃશ્ય થઈશું નહીં!

અમે અહીં છીએ, અમે ક્વીર છીએ

અને અમે માણસ છીએ!!
