Articulation Norms

Articulation is not assessed in children until the age of 3. Before this age, it is expected that they may be difficult to understand. Once a child is 3, a speech-language pathologist can assess if the child is able to produce age-appropriate speech sounds. A child will only qualify for special education speech services if they have speech errors that are not age appropriate.
