What is battle of the books?

Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading program that uses the current year's Golden Sower nominees to encourage the love of reading, expose students to different genres of writing, and enhance cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

Who can participate?

Current 4th and 5th-grade students who commit to reading at least 6 of the current year's Golden Sower nominees may form a team of 4 students. Though it is not required to read all 10 of the Golden Sower nominees, your knowledge of each book may give your team a competitive advantage!

When does the Battle of the Books club meet?

The Battle of the Books Club will meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:00 in the Library.

Meeting dates for the 2023 - 2024 will be updated in late December 2023.

Where do participants get the books?

There will be many copies available for Battle of the Books participants available through the school library and on the Sora app. Some students choose to purchase their own books so they can take notes in them though it is not a requirement.

How do I sign up?

Permission/Registration forms will be sent home with 4th and 5th-grade students in early December. Forms are due back before winter break as teams will start meeting right after we return from break. Participants may want to get a head start by reading the Golden Sower nominees during the first semester of the school year.
