A strategic plan is a roadmap for the district's next three to five years. It describes where the community wants the district to go and sets goals to help it get there, so decisions about learning, programs, and resources work toward the same goals.
A strategic plan works best when it reflects the community's current hopes and priorities. Creating a new plan gives parents and guardians, staff, students, and community members a chance to help set the district's direction for the years ahead.
The Strategic Planning Committee is co-chaired by:
Al Lewis, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Michael Sloan
Business Administrator/Board Secretary
The New Jersey School Boards Association will facilitate the planning sessions.
The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) is a statewide organization that works with local school boards. As an outside facilitator, NJSBA guides each session, records what participants share, and prepares a final report. Its approach is called 3R Strategic Planning: Reflect, Reimagine, and Recalibrate.
Parents and guardians, staff, students, and community members may share their interest in joining the committee. Members of the Board of Education also take part.
Students in grades 5 through 12 may take part; students who are invited will need a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian.
Space is limited, so we'll invite participants from everyone who shares their interest. The district's central office will review responses so the committee includes parents and guardians, staff, students, and community members.
Please share your interest by Friday, November 20, 2026. Invitations will be sent by early December.
No. No special knowledge or preparation is needed. What matters most is your experience with our schools and your ideas for the future.
Committee members are asked to attend all three: January 21, February 18, and March 9, 2027. Each session builds on the one before.
Space is limited to keep discussions small, so we'll invite participants from everyone who shares their interest. Please share your interest by Friday, November 20, 2026.
A summary of each session will be posted on the Meetings page, so everyone can follow the work, whether or not they're on the committee.
After the third session, NJSBA will prepare a final report. The plan will then be presented to the Board of Education in spring 2027.
District leaders will develop action plans that describe the steps, people, resources, and timelines for each goal, along with how progress will be measured. The district will share updates on progress on this website.
Yes. The En Español page explains how to translate any page on this site in your web browser.
