Citations tell your audience where you found the information you are presenting and can help others find those sources too!
Always give credit where credit is due.
There are many different ways to format your citations, choose a style that you like best and use it when you are making notes for yourself to help you stay organized. The most widely used citation styles are APA, Chicago, CSE, and MLA.
When working on an assignment, ask your teacher what citation style they would like you to use.

To have academic integrity means that you place a high moral value on your learning. You know what you know and what you don't know. You are willing to work hard to understand new concepts and grow.
You have the desire to work through problems or research credible sources to find evidence and then apply what you learn in a meaningful way.
When you use data or information that others have created or that you have collected, you ensure that you are not distorting the information to fit your argument.
When you produce work, your audience can easily understand what part of your work is your own ideas and what information you have added that belongs to others because you have cited your sources well.
Integrity takes courage, you need to aim high and stretch your limits. It may also mean you have to speak out and object to the ideas of others and apply new research to old ideas.
"Intellectual dishonesty is dishonesty with oneself" (J. Bell, personal communication, June 5, 2021).
If a person is intellectually dishonest with themselves they may pretend to know something they don't know, omit facts to mislead others or to support their argument, not cite sources of information to acknowledge the ideas and research of others, cheat on an exam, or lie to their benefit or to impress others.
To check your writing for plagiarism is not a necessary step. If you are citing your sources properly you will not inadvertently plagiarise another persons work.
