Ms. Dixson and I wanted to take a moment to welcome everyone back for what we expect will be another fabulous year, even in the face of this pandemic. I trust that you have enjoyed and are still enjoying your last days of summer vacation. Time sure passes quickly when you are relaxing with family members. We are in unprecedented times. We know that we could not do this without each and every one of you. We are also aware that this year will look very different than any other year before and that the many unknowns are scary. All of us are learning how to navigate through strange but also exciting waters (learning new ways to deliver instruction). This is certainly a year for all of us to step out and lead the way in our virtual environments. Our district is putting the final touches for us to reopen our doors to students. However, that will not happen for our first day back. Thank you for your patience in receiving information. I know that it is slow coming.
Please read this correspondence carefully as it contains vital information in this race to excellence. As we gear up for the year, we have several new members who have chosen to join us in our pursuit to excellence! Please see the new crew members’ names and the positions they hold. I am extremely excited and privileged to lead such an eager and excited group of educators. Since we all are embarking on this wondrous adventure together, I am confident that each of us will be careful to ensure that we are supportive, accommodating and caring as we traverse throughout this unexpectedly exciting new year.
Convocation is Thursday, August 13th via Zoom. Please be sure that you register on Edugence for convocation. It should be available next week
The pre-service training days for everyone are August 4th through 14th. Please refer to the Pre-Service Agenda that was sent to you earlier this week. You will also refer to this google site daily to sign-in, check for updates and asynchronous activities. The admin team is still finalizing a few things, so be sure to refresh the site often. Each activity will have a product to turn in. I know you will find these sessions informative and enlightening. These sessions will help in the smooth operation of our campus. Thank you in advance for being on time each day. Our kick-off will be on Tuesday, August 4th. Again, you do not need to come to the school. You may zoom from home.
NOTE: We are virtual this week (August 4th -6th). On August 7th you can sign up on the google site to come work in your room or use this time to complete your Safe Schools Online training (8:00-4:00) is the day you can come to prepare your room. Remember to complete the Covid screener before you enter the building, maintain social distancing, and wear masks in common areas during this time.

REMEMBER: For Meet the TEACHER Night, post all pertinent information on your Google Classroom.
Please update or create your Zoom ID (new staff). I will send out a document that I will send to parents on the 10th. Be sure to use your last name as the password.
We had another theme in mind, but I changed it to honor you all as educators. The theme this year is “Everyday SuperHeroes: Racing Towards Excellence”. Dust off your Superhero costumes, T-shirts, and other garb….we need you all to come to the rescue. I would love for us all to be dressed as a superhero on the first day or the first Friday (kids could do the same if Friday). Please remember to change your theme from last year and find a Heroes/Sheroes clipart to put on your email signature. Check mine out!
The cleaning of the building is complete, and the custodians have done a great job. The first day that you can come to work in your rooms is August 7th. The building is open until 5:00 daily. The doors will be locked at 5:00PM. You will need to leave before the alarm is set. You can double check this with a custodian on duty. They may be here longer. You are welcome to work in the building while a custodian is on duty.
The custodial team is working very hard this summer to get the building clean and ready for our return. Make sure you are careful not to scrape, pull or scratch items across the freshly waxed floors. Please honor the custodians’ hard work by doing your part to keep our building clean and have your students do so as well. Unfortunately, custodians will not be able to assist you before the 7th of August. Our head custodian is Mrs. Maria Manzo. The custodians are here to serve students as we are, and they take pride in what they do. Please notify the office staff immediately of any cleaning concerns you might have throughout the year. We will relay the message to the custodial staff.
If you have any items to discard, place them in a dumpster outside. Make sure you are not discarding furniture or other items that were purchased with school or district funds…this includes books. If you are in doubt, ask please.
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about heroes; medical workers, frontline workers. If you never included yourself in this category, it is time you do!. As an educator you race towards every checkered flag placed in front you and found a way to do what has always been needed to get done for the sake of your students. This year proves to be no different! I need you to realize how valuable you are every day. The power to be excellent is inside you! You make the world a better place! So Thank you! Thank you for your patience, and your concern, and your heart. I am excited about the adventure we are about to share together. We will learn so much, and we will make tremendous gains this year. I know that each of us will continue to strive for excellence! See you soon!
Please look for upcoming information via email.

PPE has been secured for the safety of your school community. Please be mindful of the distribution and quantity used. Inventory should be secured in a locked location that is accessed by your campus designee. There is not an infinite amount of product and in this time when so many organizations have the same need, it is sometimes difficult to find.
(Mr. Lopez is our campus designee).
Your teachers may participate in Virtual PD off-site on August 4, 5, and 6th *This opportunity will come with a few NORMS to be followed during Virtual PD via zoom.
1. Your video must be on
2. Person and Background should be professional
3. Active engagement required
For the 20-21 school year, our child nutrition department will be offering 2 different options daily (10 rotating plans) for staff to choose from for a nominal price…This will save you a trip off-site and save you money. This service will be offered to all campuses initially but final outcomes of the scope of the offering will be based on participation. We hope you will take advantage of this service and encourage your staff to choose our child nutrition department when ordering out.
For those who believe that their young children in the classroom will be too challenging or would like another option, we will have a childcare option on a limited basis with limited space—More information to come. The children will be socially distant and all state and local health orders will be followed.
Beginning with PK Teachers will have the option to bring their school-age children to work to participate in remote learning in their classrooms if they choose. It is our expectation that when teachers leverage this option, they understand and ensure that their children remain in their classroom while they participate on their own schoolwork and while you are teaching. Parents are responsible for their children’s meals until the first day of school on August 17th when they may begin to purchase/access child nutrition meals from one of the 11 sites that will be serving. We are committed to doing whatever we can to support our employees and grow our students because student achievement remains our goal in GPISD.
