Research Poem

In deep forests, where shadows play,

the kakapo roams during night, not day

with green feathers, like the moss in ponds

A unique creature, that is rare as tight bonds

A flightless life, roaming through the forest glades

wondering under the beautiful moon gaze.

With a heavy frame, and waddling gait.

A creature who nearly reached a traumatic fate.

its beak, a hook, and eyes so bright

Gliding through the dark night

A parrot yes, but not like the rest

On the ground lays a lonely nest

A booming call, as deep as a bass drum

Males may find a partner with this hum

A love of rimu, it feasts with glee

A beautiful bird, yet a rare sight to see

With senses so keen, they navigate

But still need help in their current state

Throughout its life, it barely scratches by

Living under the New Zealand sky.

So let us cherish this feathered gem.

Protect its habitat, don't cut down a single stem.

For its plight, we see our own

A fragile balance, not set in stone.
