●     Can my child be in band AND choir AND sports?

Yes, yes and YES. We collaborate with the other school sponsors and coaches in order to make sure that kids can be involved in all activities without any penalties. We want kids to be able to be able to experience and succeed at any activity that they are interested in.

●     Can my child switch instruments throughout the year or in 7th grade?

Students are typically not allowed to switch unless there is an extenuating circumstance that prevents them from playing their originally chosen instrument. Band is a 6th-12th grade program and in order for your child to become a well-rounded musician it takes time and effort on ONE instrument. Switching throughout the year or in 7th grade would result in “starting from square one” and would not be a successful experience for your child.

●     My child was selected to play flute/clarinet/trumpet/trombone/percussion. What do they need for class?

Your child will need an instrument of the correct brand (not all instruments are created equally, refer to the directors for the recommended brands!). They will also need a mouthpiece and accessories from a music store of your choosing. 

●     Is band an after school activity?

Yes and no - band is a class during the school day but we do offer optional but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED private lessons after school for an additional fee (scholarships are available for these private lessons) and tutorials are available Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5 PM. **THERE IS BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR THOSE WHO STAY AFTER SCHOOL UNTIL 5**. In the spring, students will be required to stay after school for ONE full band rehearsal from 4 to 5 PM unless they are required to be in math or reading tutorials.

●     Do I have to come to the concerts? 

Concerts are required for students and are a major part of your child’s grade. Parents are not required to come but are HIGHLY encouraged! We want you to see your child’s progress as a musician and want to share what we are doing in class with you. We love parent participation and we appreciate all that you do for your child as a busy parent. We recommend that you make concert nights a special family night if time allows.

●     Can my child get out of band at the semester? 

Band is a full-year course and cannot be dropped. Students who do not want to continue band at the end of the year will not be enrolled in their 7th grade year. If there is an issue that comes up between now and the end of the year, please contact a band director and we will do everything we can to help you solve it. 

●   If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us via phone, Remind, or email. We want you and your child to have a positive experience with band and we know that this is different from anything they have ever done. We want to help and we will never turn a child away due to finances or other issues. We look forward to teaching your child this year!

●     ¿Puede mi hijo/a estar en banda Y coro Y deportes?

Sí, sí y SÍ. Colaboramos con los otros patrocinadores y entrenadores de la escuela para asegurarnos de que los niños puedan participar en todas las actividades sin penalizaciones. Queremos que los niños puedan experimentar y tener éxito en cualquier actividad que les interese. 

●     ¿Puede mi hijo/a cambiar de instrumento durante el año o en 7º grado?

Por lo general, no se permite que los estudiantes cambien a menos que exista una circunstancia atenuante que les impida tocar el instrumento que originalmente eligieron. Banda es un programa de 6º a 12º grado y a fin de que el estudiante se convierta en un músico completo se necesita tiempo y esfuerzo en UN instrumento. Cambiar a lo largo del año o en 7º grado ocasionaría “comenzar de cero” y no será una experiencia buena para su hijo/a. 

●     Mi hijo/a fue seleccionado para tocar la flauta/clarinete/trompeta/trombón/percusión. ¿Qué necesita para la clase?

Su hijo necesita un instrumento de la marca correcta (¡no todos los instrumentos se crean por igual, consulte a los directores de banda las marcas recomendadas!). También necesitarán una boquilla y accesorios de una tienda de música, consulte la lista recomendada de tiendas locales.

●     ¿Es banda una actividad para después de escuela?

Sí y no – banda es una clase durante el día de escuela, pero ofrecemos lecciones privadas opcionales que son MUY RECOMENDADAS después de escuela por una cuota adicional (hay becas disponibles para estas lecciones privadas) y hay tutorías disponibles de lunes a jueves de 4 a 5 p.m. ** HAY TRANSPORTE ESCOLAR PARA AQUELLOS ESTUDIANTES QUE SE QUEDAN DESPUÉS DE CLASES HASTA LAS 5**. En la primavera, los estudiantes estarán obligados a quedarse después de clases una vez a la semana para UN ensayo completo de banda de 4 a 5 p.m. a menos que estén obligados a quedarse en tutorías de matemáticas o lectura. 

●     ¿Tengo que ir a los conciertos? 

Los conciertos son obligatorios para los estudiantes y son una gran parte de la calificación de su hijo/a. ¡Los padres de familia no están obligados a venir, pero se RECOMIENDA! Deseamos que vean el progreso de su hijo/a como músico y queremos compartir con ustedes lo que estamos haciendo en clase. Nos encanta la participación de los padres de familia y apreciamos lo que hace por su hijo/a ya que sabemos que tiene muchas ocupaciones. Le recomendamos que haga, si el tempo lo permite, las noches de conciertos una noche familiar especial. 

●     ¿Puede mi hijo/a salirse de banda en el semestre? 

Banda es un curso de un año completo y no puede salirse. Los estudiantes que no quieran continuar en banda al final del año no serán inscritos en el 7º grado. Si hay algún problema que se presente entre el inicio y el fin del año escolar, por favor contacte a un director de banda y haremos todo lo posible para ayudar a resolverlo.
