Grade 6 students will begin the year on recorder.
Students responsibilities include:
(An option to purchase a recorder from the school will be sent home the first week of school. Students may also use a recorder from previous years, or from siblings - up to individual families).
Students will also be required to:
Grade 6 students who have shown an interest and ability in music will have the opportunity to play school Alto and Tenor recorders, in order to add some harmony in our classes. Since there is a limited number of each instrument, these are typically awarded to students who have demonstrated musical growth and taken the initiative to improve on their soprano recorders over the years.
This year, students from Grades 4-6 will continue the progressive recorder program called "Recorder Karate". Grade 3s will be focusing on simple notation, and learning their first three notes: B, A, G.
Last year, many students successfully tested in various belt levels. Students will RETEST at their last level, and have the ability to continue to push forward during the first term.
Students entering Grade 4, and those new to the school, will start with the White Level and move their way through the colours.
Should any student successfully reach their Black Belts, I will begin a new enriched program for them, at that time.
Belt colours will be awarded and attached to the end of their personal recorder. Students who are using a shared recorder will not receive the elastic belts, however will get to place their magnet under the corresponding level on the data wall.
