A visual support refers to using a picture or other visual item when communicating with someone. Visual supports can be photographs, drawings, real objects, written words, real items or lists. Visual supports can be used with people of any age; however, this information below will refer to school-age students. Visual supports can be used by a variety of people who interact with a child (e.g. caregivers, teachers, parents, etc.) and in a variety of environments.
