What is SYLLABLE AWARENESS?
SYLLABLE AWARENESS is your child’s ability to hear a word and understand that it is made up of a number of syllables (one or more).
- teach your child the word “syllable” new vocabulary is also a great step in early literacy!
What does SYLLABLE AWARENESS have to do with READING?
Learning that words can be “chunked” can help when reading and when writing longer or shorter words!
What can I do at home?
Point out and break up different words during the day (“El-e-phant”…That was three syllables!”)
