Happy Birthday this month to:
Hana O. - May 9
Leo T. - May 10
Lucas - May 27
Here is what will be happening in our room in May.
Language: We will wrap our unit on Fables and begin our unit on poetry within the next two weeks. Students will be writing rhyming couplets, acrostic, shape, and Haiku poems. To finish the year off, we will complete a unit on adventure (narrative) writing. After that, we will be reviewing our forms of writing from this year as well as taking on some new writing challenges. Every day, we will be preparing for our EQAO Assessment that will take place during the last week of May.
Please continue to check your child’s planner nightly to make sure nothing is missed regarding communication from me. This will continue to be my first line of communication but my door is always open.
Math - There is a vast amount of curriculum to cover for math in order to cover everything for EQAO. We will continue with our unit on fractions. You can find expectations here. We will be investigating fractions that include fair-share problem solving (involving 20 items among 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 10 sharers. Also, problems that result in whole numbers, mixed numbers and fractional amounts. We will look at some equivalent fractions that involve halves, fourths and eighths, thirds and sixths, and fifths and tenths. I will be sending home a tip sheet for this as this can be challenging for some students.
We will also be adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers, algebra and expressions, probability and problem solving throughout May.
We are also continuing to prepare for the EQAO testing that will be taking place this month (www.eqao.com). The testing dates are scheduled for the week of May 25.
Science - We will launch into Plants and Soils for our final science unit of the year.
