Emphasis Technology at Montcalm
Emphasis Technology is not a specific program…they are simply enhanced technology courses that allow students to focus on a certain technology or trade and better prepare them for post secondary pathways. They are a compliment to the academic programming at Montcalm.
The Emphasis Technology courses at Montcalm are designed for students that have a keen interest and post secondary goals in one of the technology courses that are NOT available at their home school. An example is a student interested in Nursing that would take Health Care at Montcalm to be better prepared for Nursing programs at University and College.
All Emphasis Technology courses are taught by industry professionals that bring real life industry experience to the classroom. All classrooms are designed as close to the worker environment as possible, using the equipment and tools that are the industry standard. Who better to learn from than the experts!
Emphasis Technology courses run from Grades 10-12, are very specific and require the same skills and abilities required to be successful in all other classes.
Grade 9 Digital Technology

Communication Technology – TV/Video and movie production; audio and radio production; print and graphic communication; photography and animation
Computer Technology – computer systems; networking and interfacing; programming; electronics and robotics
Technological Design – design challenges and fabrication of models and prototypes

Grade 9 Integrated technology

The Grade 9 Integrated Technology course at Montcalm introduces students to a variety of technology areas. Students will get to work in areas such as construction, transportation, green industries, and manufacturing. What sets our Grade 9 program apart is each of these units are taught with full access to industry standard equipment and facilities.
NOTE: Students can NOT take both TIJ1OC and TIJ1O1.
Health Care
Health Care: Careers include doctor, nurse, dentist, dental assistant, physiotherapist, gerontologist, laboratory technician/technologist, pharmacy assistant/pharmacist, and Personal Support Worker Certificate Program!!
tech design
Design Technology: Students will use industry standard software and hardware to design and fabricate a variety of projects. Applicable to many industries including aviation, computer science, and architecture.
manufacturing
Manufacturing: Students acquire knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering, robotics and control systems, computer-aided manufacturing, industrial maintenance, precision machining, welding, and sheet metal.
communication technology
Communications Technology: Learn about television, video, and movie production; radio and audio production; print and graphic communications; photography; digital imaging; broadcast journalism; and interactive new media and animation.
green industries
Green Industries: Students explore all areas of the green industries, including enviro-business, agribusiness, horticulture management and science, and landscaping architecture.
construction
Construction: Acquire skills related to carpentry, electrical/network cabling, heating and cooling, masonry, and plumbing.
transportation
Transportation: Develop skills and prepare for careers in the servicing and repair of vehicles, aircraft, and/or watercraft as well as business/ownership skills needed for success in the transportation industry.
hairstyling and aesthetics
Hair & Aesthetics: Students may focus on careers such as salon ownership, hairstylist, aesthetician, nail technician, or make-up artist.
hospitality
Hospitality & Tourism: Chef training, develop food preparation and presentation skills; hotel and restaurant business; learn about event planning and marketing, customer relations, human resource management, inventory management, and tourism administration and management.
