Happy snow day, everyone! Here are some activities to keep you learning as you stay warm and safe.

Language - Reading

Log in to Spark Reading. Read at least 3 books. (password is in your planner front cover)

Listen to the story Snowed In At Pokeweed Public School.

Imagine we were snowed in… not at home like today, but at Jack Chambers! What activities could we do? Write 5 sentences telling me what a snow day at Jack Chambers would be like. Add a detailed picture to match.

Spelling: Practice your spelling words using rainbow letters. Make each letter a different colour of the rainbow.

Grade 1 Math (still lots of good practice for 2s)

Practise your Ways to make 10 by using these flashcards. https://www.superteacherworksheets.com/addition/addition-facts-making-10-flashcards_SBZZN.pdf If you can’t print at home, you can make your own cards on plain paper.

Play Make 10 Go Fish Get out some playing cards! Watch this video for instructions. Make 10 Go Fish - Parent Math Game

Grade 2 Math (and for 1s that would like a challenge)

Classroom Math Game - RACE TO 100 CARDS (instructions start at 1:30)

Practise your addition facts by playing Race to 100 Addition. This isn’t a great video, but it does a good job explaining how cumulative addition works. Your child may prefer writing number sentences for each new card drawn, and that’s okay. First one to 100 wins!

Art: Work on perspective and line by drawing this winter scene.

Science: Try a couple of snow experiments! Fill up a jar or glass with snow. Cover the jar with plastic wrap. How much water is left when the snow melts? Once the snow melts, you will notice that the level of water is not nearly as high as the amount of snow you put in the jar. Why is this? Draw a diagram showing the jar at the beginning, middle and end of this experiment. Label your diagrams. Write a sentence or two explaining what you think happened to the snow.
