Dear Parents:
Oral communication is the basis for success in language. When a child can effectively communicate their thoughts, feelings, ideas and important information orally, they are more likely to succeed in reading and writing tasks.
Today your child is bringing home their “Show and Share” book. This book contains pages that need to be prepared at home and presented at school. Each child has been given a day of our 10-day cycle to orally present their information. Please see the inside cover of the book to check your child’s presentation dates. We strongly encourage you to write the dates in your child’s planner, too.
Before your child is scheduled to present, please help your child to fill out the page and have them practise presenting to you. Your child should be comfortable explaining their information. Practise many times - present to brothers and sisters, stuffed animals, friends and even grandparents on the telephone!! Please be sure to send this Show and Share book to school with your child on their designated presentation day. The rest of the time it can be kept at home.
Parents, please remember that the work on the page should be your child’s. You can help with organizing ideas and spelling, but all work should be printed and all pictures drawn by your child.
On the bottom of several pages in the Show and Share book is a rubric that will be used to assess your child’s presentation. This assessment is part of your child’s language grade, which will be reported on in their report card.
