Beal was the first high school in London to offer a guitar course. Under the direction of Mr. Parr, we continue to offer a rewarding curriculum to students at all grade levels.

AMG 1O1 and AMG 3O1 are our introductory courses for grade 9 students and older students, respectively. No previous music experience is required. In these classes, students will learn classical posture and technique, and develop fluency in reading tablature and traditional music notation. Students will perform individually and in small ensembles. Theory basics are introduced and reinforced with ear training and application to the guitar. An overview of music history is presented. Students from these courses can select AMG 2O1 for further study.

AMG 2O1 is a continuation of the introductory AMG 1O1 and AMG 3O1 courses. Students further develop their classical technique. Free stroke, chords and arpeggios are introduced, and music is performed in higher positions on the fret board. Theory lessons include minor scales, minor key signatures and intervals. Specific eras from music history are studied in detail.

AMG 3M1/4M1 are our senior level courses. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to repertoire selection, analysis, preparation and performance using the creative process. Time management and effective practice habits are developed. Theory lessons include triads and applying chords and inversions to the guitar fret board. Specific eras from music history are studied in detail.
