What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a branch of medicine that treats pain, injury and disease with movement, such as exercise and stretching. Physical therapists may also use different pain relieving modalities, such as dry needling, e-stim and manual therapy.
Do you accept my insurance?
At this time, Go the Distance is an out-of-network provider, however, you can request a superbill to send to your insurance company for reimbursement. We accept cash/credit card payments or HSA/FSA accounts.
Do I need a referral from my doctor before I can see you?
In the state of South Carolina, you are able to see a physical therapist without a doctor's referral for up to 30 days. If you'd like your treatment to continue past 30 days, we will reach out to your primary care provider to obtain the necessary documentation.
What types of treatment do you offer?
We offer active treatments such as targeted exercise prescription and education, and passive treatments such as dry needling, manual therapy, cupping and massage. Additionally, there are virtual, hybrid and in-person treatments available.
What types of conditions do you treat?
Generally, we see people with musculoskeletal or neuromuscular pain, including neck, back, shoulder, elbow, hand/wrist, hip, knee and foot/ankle. We are also happy to provide rehab services after orthopedic surgery or prolonged hospital stays.
What sort of patients do you see?
We see any patient who is motivated to get better and who is committed to improving their health!
What does a physical therapy session look like?
Depending on your personalized treatment plan, a physical therapy session generally consists of a combination of exercise and hands-on therapy.
What does a bodywork session look like?
Bodywork sessions can include any passive treatments that will help you recover and relax. They can include dry needling, cupping, e-stim and/or sports massage depending on patient preference.
I have high blood pressure, diabetes and/or heart disease. Can I still come to therapy?
Many of our patients have pre-existing conditions like this. The good news is, physical therapy can help with all of those conditions! Your therapist will discuss your medical history with you and will monitor your vitals during your session if necessary.
What should I choose Go the Distance over an insurance-based physical therapy clinic?
If you are a busy individual who doesn't have time to go to an hour of physical therapy 2-3x/week, Go the Distance Physical Therapy is a better option for you. Additionally, due to the hybrid (some in-person, some virtual) nature of our treatment options, we are able to keep costs relatively low (with no surprise bills in the mail months later). Finally, due to insurance companies cutting reimbursement for physical therapists, most traditional insurance based clinics are not longer able to provide high quality care, as the therapists have to see multiple patients at a time.
