As members of NHS, we participate in volunteer activities to benefit our community.
Engaging in service to others increases social awareness and fosters empathy. Service also enables personal growth through new experiences, and develops improved interpersonal communication skills.
Current members (already inducted) must complete a minimum of 15 hours of service per academic year.
All hours must be submitted within two weeks of completing the service.
Beginning on the first day of summer, completed hours will count toward the following academic year.
Summer and fall hours can be carried over for the entire academic year. (This means you could complete the entire 15 hours/academic year requirement over the summer!)
You MUST complete and submit a minimum of 7.5 hours of service by the end of semester 1 to maintain good standing in NHS.
Exceptions may be made if you have an event/opportunity scheduled for semester 2 that will allow you to complete all 15 hours.
Pre-approval is REQUIRED to wait to complete all 15 hours in the spring semester. Pre-approval must be obtained from Mrs. Belinski before the end of semester 1.
All 15 hours must be completed and submitted before the induction ceremony in April.
Students will not receive their Honor stole to wear at graduation until all 15 hours are submitted for the academic year.
New Members (not yet inducted) must complete a total of 7.5 hours before induction in April.
Students who do not submit their 7.5 hours will NOT be inducted as members.
Following selection, all hours must be submitted within two weeks of completing the service.
Students will be able to use service hours that were completed before official selection.
Beginning on the first day of summer, completed hours will count toward the hour requirement for the following academic year.
