"Current Members" are students who have already been inducted — and thus hold the official title of member. Throughout the school year, "Current Members" consist of juniors and seniors. After the Induction Ceremony in April, juniors, and seniors join the ranks of official members in the chapter. Current Members are still required to meet rigorous requirements each semester to maintain their membership.
"New Members" are students who have not been inducted yet and thus do NOT hold the official title of "member"; they are working toward induction in April and thus official membership. "New Members" may also be referred to as "Candidates for Induction." New Members do not have the privilege of receiving a warning before dismissal from NHS. After being inducted, a "New Member" will earn the title of being an official member in the chapter.
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50
Model respectful character (no cheating, no referrals, no suspensions, etc.)
A minimum of 5 hours of community-based service and 2.5 hours of school-based service must be completed during each academic semester.
Service hours for Fall Semester may be completed during the previous summer.
1 service hour = 1 hour of active service (breaks and travel time do not count as active service)
Service hours will be tracked and submitted using the form found in the NHS Google Classroom.
Please see the Service Hours page for more detailed information.
Mandatory meetings will attended once per academic quarter during WIN time.
These meetings will be used to discuss service opportunities, submit hours, check in with advisor, etc.
A full meeting schedule will be posted on the NHS Google Classroom.
New Members who have been notified of their selection for membership must attend and stay for the entire Induction Ceremony in order to receive official membership in the National Honor Society.
If you're unable to attend the Induction Ceremony due to an excused absence (such as serious illness or death in the family), you will be required to submit to the Adviser an explanation of your absence and any appropriate documentation. The Adviser will determine if your absence is excused or not.
Inductees formally excused may be formally inducted at an alternative date. Inductees not formally excused no longer qualify to receive membership into the chapter for that academic year. However, they may reapply for membership the following academic year.
Dues for the school year are $15 and must be submitted by both returning and new members in order to maintain or gain membership.
Dues can be paid by cash or check given to Mrs. Belinski, or by using the SchoolPay link to pay electronically.
Failure to maintain the above member obligations may result in warning or dismissal from National Honor Society.
